The Soul and Treasure of Elton John

It astounds me, that most of the world’s most talented and gifted people cannot give honor to the

Elton John

God who died for them, the one who gave them their abilities to do what they do. They flat out deny Him, speaking their ignorance to the world of things they do not know, becoming a model for others to follow.

People don’t understand why I have a hard time listening to secular music. I believe writing, whether it is the music or the lyrics comes from within a person from the very soul. I believe it is a part of who a person is and epitomizes what they believe. This one believes Jesus, the Messiah was a gay man. I have nothing in common with that man’s soul belief therefore his music has nothing to offer me.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21

The famous Elton John and his comment about Jesus being a compassionate, gay man told by NY Daily News.

“Religion promotes hatred and spite against gays,” the openly gay performer told the Observer’s Music Monthly magazine in 2006. “From my point of view, I would ban religion completely.

“”I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems,” he tells Parade. “On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him.”

Speaking to WGN-TV entertainment reporter, Dean Richards, John says his statement was taken out of context.

Video interview here

He said, “let me clarify. I’m not saying to everyone that he definitely was gay; that’s just how I see him from MY point of view as a compassionate gay person. I see him as a compassionate person who forgave people. That’s how “I” see him. Everyone’s individual faith is their own business.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

Elton John is partially right. Jesus was compassionate – Matthew 9:36. He did forgive those who crucified him – Luke 23:34.

But there is more –

Jesus is the promised Messiah -John 4:25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things”. 26 Jesus said to her “I who speak to you am He.”

He is God incarnate – John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Homosexuality is a sin – Leviticus 19:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Sin brings death – John 8:24″ Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

Freedom from the sin of death – John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

Revelation 21:7 – He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

How sad this man cannot see the connection that in Jesus Christ we are free from sin, free to live eternally with the God who created us! What can the world and its lusts offer us in comparison? Nothing is as glorious!

We can make whatever conclusion we would like to, build whatever kind of belief system or religion that suits our own needs to allow us to continue to live the way we choose. But the truth remains the truth, and at the end of life we will all give an account for our choices.  Those who love and practice a lie  – Revelation 22:15 -will not enter in the kingdom of God. Revelation 21:27  But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of life.

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! Revelation 22:20.

  1. Romans 3:23 (King James Version)

    23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    That includes me,you,and Elton…

“I have nothing in common with that man’s soul belief.”

I love his music because like any great art it is a representation of God which is where his talent came from.

    • Hi.
That is your choice, of course! His music is beautiful and I listened to him for many years.
My point is that Elton perceives Jesus as gay, I do not, cannot, therfore my soul does not reflect the same image. I know that I am a sinner, but one who is forgiven, as all who are called by His name.

  2. So torn…the Bible has so much heterosexual immorality that seems to get forgiven with a nod. Well, not a nod, but not eternal condemnation. What’s that about? I mean, is David in heaven? He certainly caused a lot of pain.

    • David repented for his sin and God forgave him, just as He will forgive all who do the same. Does that help you understand the difference? Certainly all of us are sinners – the reason why Jesus came and died.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I don’t believe heterosexual sin is any less serious than homosexual. The bible warns against both.

  3. To Alton, (not Elton!)

Yes, originally all artistic ability sprang from God, and the Archangel Lucifer had musical abilities, apparently, and then he fell and he controls the sinful world.

So, the source is originally God, but these days it’s often produced with demonic assistance, bcos the artists themselves serve the devil and are held captive to him.

Like, when you listen to the lyrics of Elton do you think you will hear words from God or from the devil, God’s message or the devil’s?

The devil has the power to produce ‘great’ music. obviously. It’s the lyrics that are the trap.

Recently i was listening to a ‘golden oldie’ by Steely Dan, a group i used to like before i was saved, and while appreciating the music, then i realized that the lyrics are garbage, and then i lost all interest in the music.

  4. Doesn’t God command us not to love the world, or the things of the world? I am not speaking of legalism, I am speaking of a heart that loves Christ so dearly, this world and everything about it is repulsive. I too was once a ‘fan’ of Elton John, and I too practiced his same sin, homosexuality. The difference between me and him? Grace
I no longer listen to secular music, why? Because none of it glorifies God, no matter how ‘talented’ one may be, if that talent is not used for the glory of God, it is wasted and sinful.
We can all create a ‘god of our choosing’ by simply stating such. However, the One True God reveals Himself to His own through His word. I truly fear for Elton John, he is no longer a young man, and death awaits him just as it does all. He will one day soon stand before this Holy God that he has grieved, a God that states homosexuality as an abomination, something He abhors. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Thank you Mkayla for allowing me to throw in my 2 cents.

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever.

“the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” this describes modern christianity.

      Just to add:

I like Debussey’s string quartet. When i listened to it yesterday i noted that in me there was no “lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” involved. I glorified God, whether Debussey did or not.

Still, i totally respect a stance like Lyn’s.

  5. There was a time in the history of Christianity that playing music in fourths(a four count)was considered to be Satanic. Today, many Church’s are divided by contemporary vs traditional praise and worship music to the point of splitting. To me this is just one more issue that people can become (even with the right motivation) wrapped up in that the ultimate result of is division, not the good kind of division but instead the type that makes Christian people look like narrow minded hypocrites. I could give you numerous examples of church hymn’s that in their lyrics talk about working our way to heaven,or about how we’re supposed to live a life of horrible sadness while we’re here on earth,to me that’s garbage! Finding fault with the things of this world is like shooting fish in a barrel,it’s easy! Instead I choose to honor and lift up what I believe to be Christ in others instead of always being on some kind of witch hunt.

    • It all comes back to discernment. The members of the body of Christ have for too long allowed others to determine for them what constitutes true worship. It’s not about music or a feeling, the rhythm or sound. It certainly is NOT about what makes me feel good. It’s about doing what lifts and elevates the Lord in all aspects of life, not just musically. This can be determined without a “witch hunt”. Its simply knowing what is good and holy and acceptable before the Lord and what is not. A man claiming Christ is gay is not acceptable to God. It’s blasphemy, as simple as that.

      • And to add, if that makes me look like a narrow minded hypocrite in the eyes of others I simply do not care. The cross IS the narrow way and offensive to many.

  6. I love classic rock and roll. I have listened to it, off and on, my entire walk with the Lord (30+ years). However, I must admit that my thoughts almost always go to a worldly, vain, direction when I am listening to it. Almost every time. And, it’s for this reason, that that particular music is decreasing in my life. Does anyone else notice this about themselves?

    Like

    • Yes, some time ago. Especially the songs that remind me of those “party” days. It’s not a good reminder and I am better off without going there. I think our minds get loaded up just on day to day living so why add more junk.

      Like

      • It’s as simple as the fact that words convey ideas, and the words of a song could cause us to think about things from a worldly perspective… putting value on things the world values, etc.

I don’t think it’s something to get all worked up over, but there is already so much thrown at us, why add music in my own home to the list? there is a reason scripture admonishes us ….Phil 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Interesting to note the context of this exhortation is having the peace of God.

  7. Alton, This is about exhorting people who are converted, not trying to moralize to the unconverted to modify their behavior.

Was Paul on a witch hunt when he continually exhorted the church toward Christ and away from foolish and unclean things?

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and perfect and acceptable perfect will of God.
