Camping’s False Prophecy Results in Slaughter of Many

I found the following regarding Harold Camping on Tricia Tillan-Booth’s site. It is quite disturbing.

NOTE: This slaughter is confirmed by reports from International Christian Concern (‘persecution.org’) and other sources. Harold Camping’s false prophecy from earlier this year caused hundreds of Hmong people to be slaughtered. Below is a new report from Jacob Prasch in the actual region describing how it happened:

FALSE PROPHECY Causes HUNDREDS KILLED
-by Jacob Prasch.

As most of you are aware I am at this moment in North Vietnam helping the much persecuted Hmong people of the tribal mountain areas.

After listening to a translation of Camping’s prediction 7,000 of these people (known in The West as Montagnards) gathered on a mountain praising God – their suffering at the hands of the Communist regime was supposedly about to end because Jesus was returning that day in May to establish a new kingdom.

The police and military police slaughtered many of them at gunpoint beheading two pastors. Others were arrested. I am told by Hmong pastors that so many were shot dead that they were buried in mass graves bulldozed over in an episode that I read about in Britain but did not understand the magnitude of until I got here. I am now trying to clean up the mess at the request of local Hmong leaders.

I spoke to a secret convocation of Hmong pastors only yesterday who came to Hanoi, explaining to them about false prophets and false teachers.

Due to a combination of poverty, ignorance, and persecution these poor Christians don’t understand much so they believed Camping’s shortwave broadcast which is how most get their teaching in a certain village area with heavy persecution. Their families don’t know if their missing loved ones are among the many shot dead, among those arrested and imprisoned, or among those from the 7,000 hiding in the jungle.

I am not the nicest guy in the world let alone the best Christian and I can’t pretend to be. But anyone who had to deal with the confusion and devastation I am dealing with now due to Harold Camping would also blow their top. These people already suffering for their faith in Jesus had it bad enough. They are not like the undiscerning whackos in The West who should have known Camping was a crackpot and a proven false prophet & false teacher.
This is a persecuted church who just had no means to know any different. This is why I get angry at those who deceive the Body of Christ and why I warn so much about false teachers and false prophets. It may be an extreme case but these people, some of them children, were shot dead. Of course we can blame Satan and the communists but their blood is on the hands of Harold Camping and his Family radio. Women without husbands, children without parents, husbands without wives – thank you Family Radio; thank you Harold Camping.

Frankly, this has been a rough week for me. One of the worst I ever had. I am up to my eyeballs in muck trying to explain to tribal pastors how to explain to their people why their families were massacred needlessly and trying to advise them how to potect their flocks from such wolves in the future…

The anguish of the Hmong folk took my concentration off of my own problems… because their problems are so much greater after what they refer to as ‘the mountain massacre’ due to Harold Camping.

Please pray for these people and the work of Moriel Asia branch here among the Hmong. We are trying to get 5,000 outlawed Hmong Bibles printed or smuggled in via Laos.

Where does it end?  These people are suffering terribly while Camping is still in business in Oakland, California – as usual telling more lies…  Come Lord Jesus.

  1. My question is: Did these people not have Bibles? Or was Camping their only resource to the Gospel? What about their leaders to discern properly? I am not givng Camping a pass on this — no way. If the Christians over here are responsible for what they believe, then are not all Christians responsible for seeking the truth out? Yes, Camping is a kook… more than a kook. He is a liar and a deciever. And he like so many should be locked up for stealing from the sheep. BUT no one is obligated to believe lies. However, we are admonished to seek the truth.

    • I believe the article stated that Camping’s broadcast was the only teaching they had. Since they were already under extreme persecution and forced to hide, it is doubtful that they even had bibles. The point being they believed the lie and because of their enemies paid the price with their lives.

Many of us pondered who would die because of this false prophecy. Personally, I was thinking more on the lines of suicide than mass extermination, but the end result is the same. God knew the hearts of those who died and allowed it to take place. Whatever happens here with Camping, God will have the final say later on. I still find it odd that he was stricken dumb, unable to speak.

      • Yes, I had forgotten that…that Camping was stricken dumb and unable to speak. Much like some leaders of Israel (who gave away land) who to this day are in a coma unable to speak. I think there are two of them. I at first had “some” sympathy for Camping due to his age. But after finding out he has made many false prophecies, I have changed my mind. The Word says God is no respector of persons. This would go along for even those who are about a hundred years old. Man could/would never hold Camping accountable. Perhaps God did. I hope he repents.

  2. Well-meaning Christians have tried to put a positive spin on this situation – that it served a purpose in calling attention to the Lord and His return, but the devastation it has caused is evident in this report. Also, it has caused many to think the return of the Lord is foolish thinking and has jaded their thinking about spiritual matters. There is NEVER a positive to false teaching! It needs to be exposed to the light of God’s Word.

I wonder about all the people in this country such as the man who sunk all his life savings into putting up billboards and all those who devoted their money and energy into “getting the message out” – all those who burned their bridges and now have no jobs and no means of making a living. How many of them have shipwrecked their faith as a result?

    • Absolutely! I remember that particular man! There is so much at stake when we follow the leading of men rather than the word. And yet, how many are here in America doing that very thing?

  3. Some understanding of the Hmong culture is relevant here so we don’t judge them too harshly. Also, Camping’s radio station is an angel of light – many people are fooled into thinking it is doctrinally solid and you are right Kayla, even in our culture where we should know better, so many fall for all sorts of false teaching that mix truth and error. Many of these people don’t have the benefit of a local pastor and depend upon the airwaves for their teaching and have no one to guide them into rightly dividing the Word. Just look at the hordes world-wide who worship through TBN and other media venues.

  4. I work with tribal Christians in northwest Myanmar, and like the Hmong, most are too poor to afford a bible. One bible in their language costs about $5.00 US. Most families live on less than a dollar a day (average is .63 cents per day). That’s not enough to feed their families, let alone to have extra money for a luxury like a bible.

When many poor Asian Christians hear preaching or teaching from English-speakers they take it as Gospel Truth. To many of them, English is a language which they consider to be “a perfect language” — mainly because of the vast, incomprehensible wealth of the English-speaking world (which they equate with God’s blessings). I once heard a man from Southeast Asia say that he once thought that no one speaking English would ever lie, because English was the language of the King James Bible and was therefore sacred.

So don’t be harsh on the Hmong Christians – they live in a completely different world than most in the West will ever understand. Even if it were not for the extreme poverty and lack of education, the Asian mindset is something completely foreign to Westerners.

    • Charles, hello and that you for that information. It is always helpful and even necessary to get information from one who knows. I don’t believe anyone was trying to be harsh, but there was a bit of misunderstanding which I attempted to set straight.

Any additional information you can provide – if you have the time and desire – would be appreciated. 🙂

Blessings to you and those you serve in the name of Jesus. 🙂
