Peace is a Gift

Peace is in knowing who God is, the result of having built a firm foundation on His Word and believing that He is faithful to perform all that He has promised to do toward those who love Him.

Peace is not an emotion, it is not an act of the will, it is not a state of mind.

Peace is not a physical force that can be imparted to another through a spoken word.

Peace is the gift of God to those who believe.

Jesus did not just say “peace”. He said “My Peace“.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

  1. Notice that the verse says “Let not…………neither let not. This implies a choice on our part to surrender our cares that are causing us to lose our peace to the Lord Jesus. We can choose to carry our burdens rather than casting them on Him, but of course we will not be allowing His peace to reign in our hearts. We can have peace in the midst of the world’s chaos, the peace that passes human understanding as we walk with our Lord and trust Him. You are right, it is not something we can conjure up for ourselves, but rather is available to us as we walk by faith. If we choose to go on our own and depend upon ourselves, then we lose the peace that He offers.
