a moment for celebration

As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Psalm 55:16

Today is my 5th year anniversary celebrating my resignation from healing rooms on October 31, 2008.

It was the first solid step I took in walking away from the deception. Just wanted to take a moment and honor that before God and with my readers. I had no idea that road would lead me here.

The Lord is mighty to save. Praise His Name!

  1. This is awesome and I’m rejoicing with you! You and your blog were such a help to our family when our son was getting dragged into the whole Bethel movement three years ago. He had even wanted to go to their School of Ministry and become a prophet. It’s been a long road of healing for our relationship because it had really been a battle, and then because he was so confused spiritually, he decided to party it up and went through a spell with drugs. I’m grateful that he’s now attending The King’s College in New York City where his faith has been strengthened and where he’s learned how to think critically and defend his faith. I hope he will not be swept away by every wind of doctrine that comes along ever again! I listened to you on the radio earlier today, and am thankful for all you’re doing to help people that are facing these issues.

  3. Congratulations, M’Kayla!!! Each step forward counts.

My friends are still caught up in Bill Johnson’s cult. And sozo is starting to infect churches up here, now (Pacific Northwest). There is more work to do!

    Blessings,

  4. I thank God for your changed life and also your blog. Our church too is dealing with the teachings of a false gospel. The arguments they supply, in their defense, is that they are not following the teachings of Bill Johnson, but rather ‘just’ practising the The Ultimate Treasure Hunt (Kevin Dedmon) and the teachings of Mike Bickle at IHOP. What wisdom can you give us on these topics? We are convinced that they are all part of one big misled family. We are concerned for our friends and family who think this is great!

    • Hi Debbie. I was once a seer prophet who used to roll in the false prophetic, which Treasure Hunting is, just repackaged, and sold in book form. So, anything related to “giving a word, prophetic words, words of destiny” are all the same thing. This power is no different than what the physics do. These words elevate the position of man, rather than to bring him to repentance, which is the purpose of the gospel and the reason we follow Christ. If you pay attention you will see how clearly that resounds. I am familiar with IHOP, mostly for their demonic music. I have read some of Bickle’s teachings which have nothing to do with Christianity. The bottom line is the bible itself. Where do you find treasure hunting there? You don’t. End of dilemma. Yes, it is that simple. 🙂 My blog is full of information, but if you have specific questions they would be easier for me to address.

Let me know how I can help. And may our Lord grant you and yours great wisdom in these days.

  5. Debbie,

Here is a short clip of Mike Bickle:

If your church leaders are following Bickle, they are not following Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This stuff feeds the flesh and leaves the heart starving for the true bread of life.

  6. Thanks for the clip. I found it interesting that never once did Bickle mention or use the word of God. I would have liked to have heard what his one principle was that he alluded to at the end of the 15 min. I will look for it on YouTube and see what I can find.

It’s not our leadership that is following Bickle, but rather, they are challenging those who are. This group, after totally confusing many and causing chaos in our church, have left to form their own congregation. It has left our church reeling and we weep for those who are swept along in the tide. We continually find ourselves in shock over how intelligent people can get sucked into this garbage and then promote it. We are praying for their eyes to be opened.

The good side to this is, we are even more aware of the importance of knowing our bible(my husband and I are in non-stop study) and understanding our faith so that we can defend it in a manner that brings honour and glory to God.

We have lost friendships and others, including family relationships, are strained. I have been a Christian for 48 years. I always wondered, personally speaking, how Jesus was going to ask me to carry my cross to follow Him. Now I know.

  7. I believe that Satan is a counterfeit and there is no truth in him. As a person who believes in the true manifistations of the holyspirit we must be careful that we do not become a hinderence and allow our flesh to take over. This clip to me in part exposed some of the falseness and how people can get carried away. Everything must be done in decently and in order. The holyspirits main job is to always point to jesus. Makayla you are fortunate god set you free from the healing rooms and false doctrine because that foundation is not built on christ and I believe that that the church in redding needs prayer. The prophet is subject to the spirit. We can control ourselves and if we don’t god will sooner or later-

  8. I have a friend in CA who loves The Lord with her whole heart and soul but she is serving in The healing rooms in Fontana and in Pasadena as well. When I was living in CA, I went to her church called Water of Life in Fontana. I also went to the healing rooms a few times. I have been to sozo 3 times. I am confused about this movement in the churches today. I moved to AZ at the end of February of this year and I’m trying to find a church that is biblically sound. Does anyone know where I could go? Also how in the world am I going to tell my friend she’s in a cult? Please pray for me.

    • Trisha, thanks for your comment. Your friend is deceived into believing the “jesus” of the healing rooms is the Messiah. He/it is not. She is following the testimony of other deceived people and not the word of the Lord written by those who followed Him. 1 John 1:1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life–2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us— 3what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.

I have done a lot of research into IAHR teachings because I was once involved with them. Please see the category on the side bar Refuting IAHR for more information. I will be happy to help you with any questions that you may have.

I wouldn’t begin by telling your friend that she is in a cult. I would begin by asking her to show you where her/their experiences are found written in the bible to the degree they claim. And of course why there is so much emphasis put on HEALING above and beyond salvation – why is this since we know our bodies in their current state are not made to last forever. Paul even stated his was failing – 2 Peter 1:14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. There are other instances in the bible where people were noted as sick and not immediately, miraculously healed. It will be a hard go for you because they tend to not listen. All you can do is speak truth to her and pray that she will see the truth.

As for your question on where to go to church..consider it is time for you to lean on the Lord and be taught by Him. Many churches are overrun with false doctrine. But rest assured you are not alone in this quest, many of us have gone that way. The Lord will not leave you to starve on your own. You may find yourself better taught and fed by His hand, than by the hands of imposters.

There is so much more I could say to you on these issues. I hope and pray my blog and my offers of help are consoling to you. And I will pray the Lord to meet you with much peace and wisdom to strengthen and settle you.

Please stay in touch dear sister! 🙂

  9. Mkayla, what a reason to rejoice! Five years! It was four years in September for me that the Lord opened my eyes and I started on my journey to freedom, in some ways it has been a long hard four years, my whole life was turned upside down and inside out! Thank You Lord!

That video of Mike Bickle leaves me horrified, nauseated and grieved all at the same time. I have seen those things he speaks of, participated in my share of them, and I remember actually telling someone it was fake when I fell on the ground ‘slain’ by the spirit, but I had been it taught that to do that was to crucify my flesh and be willing to look foolish in order to completely surrender and submit myself to the working of the Holy Spirit, not to do it was to quench the Holy Spirit’s work in my life. What a bunch of bunk! The truth is it was all flesh!

I participated in the ‘Healing Room’ teachings for a few years. I remember being ‘taught’ to ‘prophesy’ in the healing room setting. I was taught to speak out whatever words or pictures that popped into my head as a prophetic word to the person being prayed over (because of course it’s common knowledge that if you are filled with the Holy Spirit whatever pops into your head must certainly be the Holy Spirit, right?). Of course it was all tape recorded and given to the person as their ‘personal prophecy’. Well, my downward spiral began when I spoke out some really stupid thing that popped into my head and I had the audacity to say that I was not going to claim it was God speaking (on tape nonetheless!). My pastor just looked at the floor and shook his head, how dare I quench the spirit like that. The really bazaar thing is people in the group, including the poor dear being prayed for, kept asking me what I thought it meant, and I kept saying I was not going to claim it was from God (it was some stupid quip about a lollipop for crying out loud!!)

It is truly embarrassing to admit I ever participated in such foolishness. It was at that point I started truly crying out to God for His truth. On one hand I was dealing with this and much more hyper charismatic stuff in this Charismatic Church I had been attending for a short time, and on the other hand I was suddenly made aware of the Spiritual Formation, contemplative prayer stuff that had infiltrated the Presbyterian church I had faithfully attended and been a member of for over 25 years. Now, I don’t know why this, of all things, suddenly caught my attention because while in the Presbyterian church I had also been participating in Charismatic teachings as well as WOF teachings, and had traveled all across the US to attend several of Peter Wagner’s NAR ‘spiritual warfare’ conferences and had become quite immersed in ALL the gobbledy gook that went along with that.

I was an absolute spiritual mess, and am truly humbled that the Lord saw fit to rescue me and bring me out from under all of that deception. I can’t say enough how thankful I am for His grace and mercy. In the end it was the pure Word of God that revealed the truth to me and set me free!

The Lord is good! Very shortly after the Lord helped me see the deception and false teachings for what they were I was able to warn a friend of mine about Mike Bickle and IHOP just as she was preparing to send her teenage son there for the summer. Thank you Jesus! I don’t know where this precious boy would have ended up if the Lord hadn’t intervened. I lack sufficient words to express my gratitude for what my Lord has done for me, for how He has set me free from all this and so much more.

God has shown me great mercy which I did not deserve….

Rom 9:15-16 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

1Ti 1:12-17 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
