A Look at Dreams and Visions

I wanted to take a closer look at what the bible has to say in the areas of dreams and visions. These experiences have become quite popular over the years with many people  who claim their dreams are from God. Others claim the ability to interpret the dreams and produce many resources and conduct expensive classes to teach the ability to do the same.  Some will go so far as to provide impartations at the conclusion of classes through the laying on of hands so that the attendees will receive the gift of dreams and visions with the ability to interpret same.

I have always been a big dreamer. I dream almost every night and some of those dreams seem to go on for long periods of time. They are filled with all sorts of things, people, some living, some not, places, animals, colors, probably much like you dream. Some dreams are pleasant, some are disturbing and others are full on nightmares. I wake from my dreams sometimes happy, even laughing, sometimes I am crying, other times I have been known to scream out loud. I have times where I wake up in a full on panic attack. See? Nothing so special or different from what anyone else might experience while sleeping, except of course, to those who claim they never dream.

When I became involved in various false teachings I was noted for a gift in prophecy, which spilled over into the area of dreams and visions. It is believed those who are prophetic can also do the same in the night hours or simply while napping. Visions are more known to happen to people while awake, but the bible also mentions night visions. Regardless of these specifics, it is believed God is speaking during those moments. People with this gift are known as seer-prophets. Most organizations place a great deal importance on the prophetic gift and great responsibility on those who are known to operate under them. Many decisions are made based on what is deemed as a prophetic word, dream or vision, and these can steer an entire organization into a specific direction. I learned that oftentimes more emphasis is placed on the prophetic than is on scripture or prayer.

With all of this in mind, we owe it to ourselves and to the Lord to know the truth. I believe what you are about to read is going to have a profound impact in how you view the entire concept of dreams and visions. I believe you will gain a clearer understanding because we are going to God’s word for answers and instruction rather than a person’s claim to have knowledge and mass-produced resources.

Dreams with Clear Messages

In this section I will be using two examples taken from the bible, one from the old testament, and the other from the new testament. Both of these dreams provide the dreamer with a clear understanding of who spoke, the content of the message and the reason for the dream. I am only using enough scripture to make the points I need to in the subject of dreams. I would advise that you carefully read these stories in their entirety.

Jacob

This dream is commonly referred to as Jacob’s Ladder. Most everyone is somewhat familiar with the visual concept, even those who don’t know much else about the bible. Its familiarity and clear message are reasons why I chose to use it as the first example.

Genesis 28:10And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. 16And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. 17And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

So here we have the amazing story of Jacob who stops for the night during his travels. Just imagine God, the Creator of all things showing Jacob angels moving up and down on a heavenly ladder! And above that ladder stands God proclaiming to Jacob who He is! Can you imagine God speaking to a man this way while he slept on the ground?

Aside from that, notice the words God used were very plain and Jacob understood it was the Lord speaking to him during the night. Jacob understood what was said to him. There is no strange symbolism in this dream, just an easy to understand message from God. In the morning, Jacob is in awe, and rightly so because unquestionably he knew that God spoke to him while he slept.

Joseph

This is a piece of the story regarding the virgin birth of Christ in which Joseph finds Mary to be pregnant. Joseph knows he is not the father of her baby and who would not doubt such a thing. But before Joseph made the wrong decision and to correct his own thinking, God sent an angel to deliver a very important truth!

Matthew 1:18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

So again, a very powerful and awesome message is given and yet this time by an angel. The message is clear and understood by the dreamer who follows through with its instruction.

It is quite simple to see from these two examples that God speaks very clearly to His people. I believe clear communication is very important to God and it is important that we, as His people know we can understand Him. Think about that point, though, we are not talking about all people but His people, those who choose to know and follow Him.  The following scriptures refer to calling and salvation, but the language on who hears His voice is made clear.

John 10:1Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of stranger.

John10:27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Dreams with Symbols

This next section gets a little tricky as the dreams are more complex. They are full of symbolism involving plants and animals that don’t make any sense to us at all. We have all had these types of dreams when we later woke up wondering what that crazy was all about. Well, the content of these dreams will have the same effect when first presented. But God has His place for crazy.

In these examples God is not speaking to His people, but He is providing dreams so that their imagery can be interpreted by those who have put their faith and trust in Him. The people called to interpret these wild dreams will be put in situations that are dire, making them even desperate for God’s help, creating a need for His answers in ways that most of us have not yet experienced. In addition, He is making His presence known to those who do not follow Him. Once we make the effort to read these stories, their messages and purposes become very clear.

Joseph

You have probably heard about the boy with the colored jacket, the one whose brothers tossed him down a well. Yes, this is the same guy, Joseph, whose obviously had some pretty hard times.

Joseph finds himself wrongly accused and imprisoned for something he did not do. While in prison he meets up with Pharaoh’s butler and baker who both presented him with their dreams.

Genesis 40:6And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. 7And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward of his lord’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? 8And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.9And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me; 10And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes: 11And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

12And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: 13Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler. 14But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house: 15For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head: 17And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

18And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days: 19Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

20And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. 21And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand: 22But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.

Notice in verse 8 where Joseph proclaims interpretations of dreams belong to God. This is an important point to pay attention to. He didn’t claim the ability or the gift to interpret dreams as his own. He didn’t consult with anyone regarding the meaning of the imagery, nor did he let the strangeness of the dreams shake him. Joseph knew the meaning of the dreams because God revealed the message to him and there seemed to be no doubt in Joseph’s mind from the start that God would do that very thing.  The dreams both carried prophetic messages which proved to be true. It worked out well for the butler, but not so much for the poor baker.

Again, Joseph is betrayed and left forgotten and spends another two years in that prison. But the story continues and this time it is Pharaoh who does the dreaming.

41:1And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river. 2And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow. 3And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river. 4And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

5And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good. 6And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them. 7And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

8And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

Pharaoh had two consecutive dreams which troubled him. He did not know the meaning of the dreams and so-called his wise men and magicians to help him with the understanding. It must be hard having so much power and importance in a role such as the Pharaoh and yet not know your mind while sleeping! And so these men who were called, with all their gifting could not help him gain the understanding. The meaning of the imagery was kept from even those who were considered most powerful and most wise.

9Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day: 10Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker: 11And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. 12And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret. 13And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

So, enter into the picture forgotten Joseph! And it makes me almost want to cheer for him, after all he has suffered to be called into such an important role and in such a crucial time. Here we will find out why. As I said, I won’t be posting all of the scriptures, just the ones to make clear what is taking place. The previous verses were posted so we can see how the imagery fits into the story and how it is interpreted. From here on I will pick through the story to bring out the points that need to be made and understood for the purpose of our topic.

As we continue to read the story we see in the verses that follow Pharaoh summons Joseph and tells him about the two dreams. In the latter part of verse 24 Pharaoh states

24…and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

To which Joseph immediately responds

25And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do. 32And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

Joseph then explains the meaning of the dream which will ultimately prove to be a severe famine. Joseph again provides interpretation without pause and without taking personal gifting for the ability to understand the dream. He makes clear that the dream came from God and the events depicted in the dream will soon take place.

38And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? 39And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

Pharaoh acknowledged that God had revealed those things to him and found Joseph’s wisdom to be unmatched in the land, even above those previously considered the most wise. God gives us wisdom when we ask.

James 5:1 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

The word discreet in verse 39 also means to discern. How often have you heard someone claim to have the gift of discernment? Here we see it given to mature believers.

Hebrews 5:14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Daniel

I want to quickly look at the early experiences of Daniel as the examples are similar to that of Joseph. I believe doing this will help to clarify scriptural points. Where there is repetition, there is great importance. Anytime we see something repeat itself, whether it be a story, a theme, or even just a phrase, it is a place to take notice.

In Daniel chapter one we see him as one brought in to serve under the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar. He is accompanied by three of his pals, along with others who were descendents and nobles of the king.

17As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

Again we see that God gives knowledge, but here we see also the point made that Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. And as for our group of the four young men they were found to be wiser than all the magicians and astrologers in the land. God’s power and His gifts will always outdo that of Satan and the occult practices we see in the supernatural. In the same manner, the true gifts of God will out perform any of the false gifts that are prevalent today. Such gifts will gain in power because it has been ordained by God that they must. Many will be deceived during those times and that truth is a reason for this writing.

In chapter two King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream that leaves him quite troubled. He calls for his magicians, astrologers, sorcerers and the Chaldeans, all of the men gifted in the occult to tell of his dream.  But unlike Pharaoh in the previous story, this King wants to be told the dream itself and the interpretation. This is his demand at the threat of death and destruction to their households if they could not, but great gifts with great honor as rewards should any of them know the answer. In verse 10 it is the Chaldeans who claim it’s impossibility –

10The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. 11And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

Here is it established from the wisest of the wise this demand from the King is not within a mere mortal’s capability. It simply could not be done. The story continues as the King was quite angry and sent out a decree to kill all of those deemed to be wise. This decree included Daniel and his three companions.

14Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon: 15He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. 16Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

17Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: 18That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

We see here that Daniel went to his friends and prayed that the Lord would give them mercy for this situation. Later in the night, while he slept, Daniel was given the dream and it’s interpretation, for which he later will give God glory. Again we see that God gives wisdom and we are also told he reveals deep and secret things, even those that are impossible to know on our own.

20Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

21And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

22He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

23I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.

Daniel reiterates to the King that this dream was given by God and the purpose of the dream was to show the King what was in his own heart.

27Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; 28But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; 29As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass. 30But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

Now, this dream has some very serious implications and meanings, and as Daniel stated are for the latter days and its complete meaning is yet to unfold. I’m not interpreting dreams, only pointing out what the scriptures have to say about them.

After the dream and it’s meaning are explained by Daniel, remember a feat claimed to be impossible for a mere man, we see  an unbelieving King acknowledge God, the revealer of secrets!

47The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

Trances with Visions and Imagery Including Angelic Visitation

Some believers claim to go into trance states and have visions. They also claim to receive special messages and direction from God during while in the trances.  I wanted to take a look at an example from scripture and came upon a very interesting and complex story of Cornelius and Peter.  Both of these men were considered devout and given to prayer.

Acts chapter 10 begins with a man called Cornelius who during a time of prayer receives a visit by an angel through a vision. Though afraid,Cornelius immediately recognizes him as a messenger from the Lord and responds accordingly.

3He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. 4And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. 5And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

It is exciting that the angel addressed him by name, “Cornelius”. The angel gave him instructions on what he and his men were to do and who the men were to ask for, again by name, Simon Peter, and where he would be found. It’s very personal and we shouldn’t be surprised because we are known by name. However, the point that we need to remember here is clarity. Clear instruction.

Continuing, we see Peter enter the story and this is where some odd imagery comes in to play.

9On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, 11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: 12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. 16This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

God is speaking to Peter in a vision, while in a trance. Peter sees imagery that is familiar to him and at first misunderstands the meaning of what he is shown. God repeats the message three times, and we remember that repetition means importance. Peter does not fully understand the meaning of all that he has been shown and he doesn’t understand why he is being shown these things. Verse 17 states that he doubted within himself the meaning of the vision. At the same time, God’s plan unfolds, and in verse 19 Peter begins to receive instruction through the Holy Spirit.

19While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.  20Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

Just after we see the two men meet according to the instructions that had both been given. Note Peter’s response:

28And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Peter understands the meaning of the vision that had previously not been clear. Because of the wording in verse 19 we know the revelation came from the Lord. There is no other way he could have known.

As the story continues through the rest of chapter 10, and we see God’s purpose for these visions was to bring salvation to the Gentiles. Verse 34 states:

34Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

These stories are truly amazing in their content and have deep meaning when read in their entirety. In them, we see God’s plan unfolding before our very eyes.  I believe communication is very important to God and we see Him offering different methods of communication through these dreams and visions. God makes His plan known to His people. We see God reach out and speak clearly to those who love Him so that they can understand Him.

We see great leaders, Pharaohs and Kings given dreams by God containing bothersome symbolism that they, nor anyone in their courts could understand. Yet God called men, seemingly unimportant to the world, and explained to them the deep hidden secrets implanted in the minds and dreams of those great rulers.  We see God give wisdom and discernment to those who ask. And we seek God make His existence known to others who do not know Him.

All who witnessed these mighty and unmatched acts knew these miracles came from the Most High God.   And they were indeed, miracles, feats with specific purposes of God which cannot be mimicked or dumbed down for the deceitful and selfish, gainful purposes of mere men and women.

We cannot read these stories and still come away thinking we need people to teach us how to understand our own dreams and visions. Or, that we need an impartation to receive the ability to do so.  If and when God speaks to us in a dream or a vision we will know all that we need to because we belong to Him and hear His voice. And if there be any doubt we can rest assured we have the precious word of God to guide us and the Holy Spirit to lead us and to reveal the truth. That’s His job. Anything else is just a lie.

The scriptures are very clear.

Death of a False Prophet, John Paul Jackson Has Passed

The man, John Paul Jackson,who I once took my dream interpretation training from has passed away. The man was a proven false teacher and false prophet, and I am floored and grieved at this news. And unless he repented and found the truth, he stood before God in judgement, without Christ.

Unfortunately, his work in deceiving masses will continue. Please be aware of who you follow and test everything through the perfect teaching of the bible, which will never fail us.

The Truth and The Lie Are Set Up Side by Side

I’ve been writing for several years now, exposing the false signs and wonders of Charismania that has taken over the church. This movement has come from many sources, mine were the International Association of Healing Rooms, heavily influenced by Bill Johnson, Bethel, in Redding, CA, and a long list of names and teachers to go along, including Heidi Baker of Iris Ministries, John Paul Jackson of Streams Ministries. I operated in the false prophetic, laid hands on people, zapping them with strange electrical power that did nothing but knock them (and me) around. I think most of you know my past, so I won’t rehash it just now. It is important that you understand the power was quite real, quite dramatic, and just as all sin is for a time, quite fun. I watched as I felt that presence go from warm and comforting, to electrical and painful, even scary at times.

I have found the greatest doctrinal error in those groups was the misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit and how He operates in the lives of believers and in the lives of unbelievers. He has a very specific part to play and He does not work in the life of a believer in the same way He does an unbeliever. One thing that I will note which is a very important foundational knowledge:

John 16:12“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to

you.

For better clarification and to alleviate misunderstood doctrine regarding the Holy Spirit, please read the words of Jesus as He explains Him to His disciples in John 14, 15, 16. If everyone did that I wouldn’t be writing this article and charsimania would never have existed.

I want you to keep this in mind as you watch the videos that follow. I believe this movie made by Darren Wilson (Finger of God, Father of Lights) will play a large role in further deceiving the masses, first believers and then unbelievers. Darren’s previous movies clearly displayed the false signs and lying wonders of fallen manna and gold teeth mysteriously appearing in the mouths of people. Darren, like many of us, wanted to see more of God – more power, more healings, more miracles and so he opened himself up to the god of charismania. This movie is just another false idea that we need to be in a specific place to receive in truth was freely given for the asking. All of charismania believes there are specific places where God “shows up”. This is not the teaching of the New Testament.

I experienced the power they speak of in this movie attributed to the work of the Holy Spirit. I experience the lying wonders. And though they use His title (just as they use the name of Jesus) they do not know Him, nor do they speak for, or of Him. The power behind this movie is the same power behind Charismania. It is demonic. It is not Jesus.

The few of the people involved in this movie: Michael W Smith, Heidi Baker, Bill Johnson, Randy Clark, Andrew Wommack, Todd White and Kim Walker. Darren has made a plea to the public to get involved too. Word of mouth advertising is most effective. I hope those of us who speak the truth will do the same and get the truth out there.

Holy Ghost Movie

Yes, I am greatly disturbed and grieved. This is probably the hardest article I have written since the beginning of my blog. I have seen things go from bad to worse. People, we cannot have the power of the Holy Spirit without repentance! Bethel and IAHR, and all the rest, believe it is a force that can be passed off from one person to another, by way of impartation. It is not repentance they are after. It is the power.

The following video is a collection on Brian Welch of Korn. Brian is in the Holy Ghost movie and claims to know Christ. He left Korn, formed his own band, then returned to Korn. He pals around with John Crowder; is depicted in the last part of the video with Todd Bentley and Patricia King doing their usual false prophetic thing in telling Brian, like they tell everyone, how great an influence he will be.

I have to warn you this video can get quite graphic but you need to know, the world needs to know who is taking part in the Holy Ghost movie. As for repentance, where is Christ beyond the use of His name? Again, caution in viewing.

This is a more “intimate” video further revealing the euphoric, drunken, even sexual influence of the demon referred to as “jesus”. We are not seeing this for the first time. We  will not find the disciples describe Jesus, the Messiah, in such a way in the pages of the bible.

By now you are seeing many things. An important point that we want to remember is in all of this, is the focus is not put on Christ, it is put on the person – fame and fortune, a bit of word of faith prosperity. Christ calls us to repent and to turn from our sin. We are called out from the world.

I believe there is a reason the music world has been pulled into this deception and I will get into that another time.

It’s All Been A Set Up

2 Thessalonians 2:

9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan with all power, signs, and lying wonders,

10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, and they might be saved.

11 And for this reason God will send the a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,

12 that they all might be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

There is much being said today through various “Christian” groups and teachers about God’s love. I’ve heard it and have read it in various teachings, I’ve read it here as a defense mechanism against my blog as though the fact that God loves nullifies every thing else He has said to us.  I am told that I have no love because I expose the deceiver. I am reminded of God’s love as though I am not aware that it exists. I have been found to be the condemner.

The scripture above states in verse 10 people did not receive the love of the truth that they might be saved. This is what I was told when I first started to question what I had believed, practiced and taught others. I had no love of the truth and so I believed the lie. It was harsh. It was true. There is much more to God than His love.

In verse 9 we are told the coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan with all power, signs and lying wonders. Lying wonders. I believed lying wonders and signs to be the power of God. I believed the power I sensed running through my own hands to be the presence of the Holy Spirit. I could feel what I thought was the presence of angels who came to assist me in the work of the ministry.  These were wonderful moments of revelations, of power and what I thought was true Christianity in what it was created to be.

I had more than my share of dreams and visions, as I was considered to be a seer prophet. What I saw, heard and felt was considered to be important truth and people listened to me, they sought “prophetic” words from me needing my insight and my wisdom.  After all, I knew stuff. I knew things about people that no one else knew. I knew conversations that were going to take place before they did. I knew what I would be receiving as a gift from someone who loved me and I knew what that gift was. When I questioned these “abilities” I was assured that was all the gift of the prophetic. The voice I heard and followed, who we called the Holy Spirit told me all these things. It was an amazing few years of what I perceived as love, of power, of transformation as I was participating in what I believed to be very powerful ministry.

There was just one problem. Just one. I was deceived.

Despite the fact that God loves, He will also send a strong delusion. Those who follow the lie will believe the lie and the end will be their death. This is quite plain in the final 2 verses, yet it is not so popular these days to those who hammer on the love of God. But it is true, If we continue to insist on our way, and follow after the false teachings, false signs and lying wonders, there will be no way of repentance. This is how I believe salvation can be lost. We must follow Christ, we must follow the teachings of His word and refuse to follow the voice of another.

Please read the first few chapters of Genesis.

Genesis 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat for in that day you eat of it you shall surely die”.

Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die”.

Surely? In Genesis 4:5 Adam, the man later so named, died. What did the serpent, aka Lucifer, Satan say to the woman? He promised her a greater life, he promised her power (v5). They got death. See? It was all a set up by Satan, the deceiver.

The power, signs and lying wonders falsely called acts of The Holy Spirit, are in reality acts of Satan. Many will follow after in great number as time goes by. Why? Because they like them smooth talkin’ words and have believed the lie. This is what we are witnessing these days as we watch our pastors, churches, friends and family swept up into what was coined many years back as “Charismania”. The events of Genesis still take place today. In fact, we are well beyond that as we are seeing a powerful demonic force unleashed upon the earth and the people love it, they believe it and are deceived. Unless they wake up, they will surely die.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A Testimony and the Golden Sword

I am posting a testimony I just received as a comment to the warning against The Vineyard. Following that is a clip of Carol Arnott and her false testimony of the Golden Sword which is mentioned in the testimony. Watch Carol, watch the people. This is the demonic in action.

One day, years ago, while in worship at the Vineyard, I too had a similar vision in which I was given a sword. I hadn’t thought about it in quite some time until I read this man’s words. All these years later and I am still uncovering the false prophetic. Read on you will see what this man has exposed is true. We are subject to who we come under and will become victim and subject to that same demon spirit.

I want to say that I was involved in a Vineyard church for some time. In fact, the very reason that I found this article is my need and desire to understand why I was attacked there. I was wounded badly on all fronts. I began attending a Vineyard church after having been a christian for many years. I knew then as I do now, that God’s word is my final authority for everything.

When someone attends a Vineyard church, ANY Vineyard church, they become subject to the evil or the good that was involved in the inception. Do not be deceived, there is real danger and power in this movement. It is very very dangerous to ANY believer who becomes involved. Light has no fellowship with darkness.

The reason that I was attacked is both good and bad for me. Good in that the reason was not that I was hated but Him who lived both with and in me was hated. It was also bad because it led me down a path of self doubt or doubt that I was even saved for a time. Of course my attack was on many fronts and it was personal, social, even public in one case. There was also an attack that was spiritually so real that I cannot convey it in any words. I have come to the conclusion after too long a time that it was the result of misguided person in leadership who stood behind me during worship with a golden sword that he believed he received through the heresy of the “Golden Sword Prophecy” delivered originally by Carol Arnott in January 1997. Dear Brothers and Sisters, I am only still walking with our Loving creator because of grace. Through this I have found the key to victory has been really forgiving and loving the ones who so harmed me. I want to make sure that I tell everyone who reads this that God’s word is Alive. His name is Jesus. He is our final authority. The friend, the Comforter, The Holy Spirit my friend who sticks closer than a brother, always speaks of Him. The Holy Spirit will never add to the word of God. ALL truth is there for us.

I hope this is helpful for me and someone else. I would like to add one more thing that I noticed while I was involved in the Vineyard. They didn’t like it when I talked about my being fully persuaded that the Blood of Jesus was everything I needed and all I needed.
I noticed that they didn’t discuss the Blood very much at all. For me, my Christian walk can be defined as simply this: Being led by the Holy Spirit, the friend who sticks closer than a brother, into ALL Truth by one thing and only one thing, The Living Shed Blood of Jesus Christ. The New Age Propensities of Bethel Church’s Bill Johnson, John Lanagan

bkt-jl-bth-lgMy friends, John from My Word Like Fire has published the following tract on the relationship between Bethel teachings and the New Age. I was exposed to, and was taught similar ideas from John Paul Jackson. And in and my dealing in the false prophetic I too, was considered a “seer”.

It is widely believed and taught therein, that the works of the occult, the supernatural and psychic power are truly from the Lord. Those who practice these things outside a relationship with the Lord, only have yet to know Him, and that and the church itself has forgotten its true ways. Nothing can be further from the truth. If you have ever heard of Christian prophetic booths set up at fairs and conventions, this is where it comes from.

The simplest way to put this is to compare what John MacArthur says and teaches and then compare that to the Word of God. This is not expository preaching, if one reads the scriptures that he is quoting and then listens to his meaning of it; it becomes clear that he is not following the Biblical standards he, himself proclaims to follow.

In fact all of those interpretations are imposed on the text. And you know how I feel about imposing things on the Bible text. Not good.

I don’t know what you have been taught about that story about the widow giving her last two cents. That was NOT an example of Christian giving. God doesn’t expect you to give your last two cents and go home and die. That’s what happens to a widow who is suckered by a religion of works. She was trying to buy, with her last two cents, her way into the kingdom; because that’s what she’d been taught. And Jesus said any system that sucks people down to the place where they have nothing left, in a false hope is coming down and it did.”

Quote from “God’s Plan for Giving” part two:

You say wait a minute, that’s no big deal; for all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want, did cast in all the she had, even all her living. You say how did he know that? He knew everything. She only had an eighth of a penny left and she gave it. Wow, you say it’s not very significant, it won’t do very much. It was significant because she gave everything friends and you can’t give anymore than everything. The point that Jesus’ is making is this, that, that is sacrifice and that is the essence of giving and the ultimate sacrifice would be to give everything. The least money was the greatest gift. What does this teach us about giving? Does this teach us to tithe? No. It teaches us that we are to give sacrificially and maybe that means everything we have. Certainly it means more than we are giving now and I say that for myself as well.”

Quotes from “Widows in the Church” Part 1

image“Truly I say to you, this poor widow has cast in more than all they who have cast into the treasury, for all they did cast in of their abundance but she ever want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” And here we see the godliness and the devotion of this dear woman who having nothing gave it all. That’s the spirit of generosity in the heart of one devoted to the worship of God.”

Really trying to keep this short and to the point. Simply comparing what he says in these three sermons it is apparent that he is teaching error. Note also that all of these are still on his website as teaching tools and wrote a book on “God’s Plan for Giving“  Which means he is still teaching both accounts of from this scripture.

I don’t know if the quote he makes at the Strange Fire Conference, about the widow is in his Strange Fire book or not, I will not purchase it to find out.  He has written over 150 books, including his own “Study Bible” and one has to wonder, in his footnotes and commentaries, which version of the widow, saved or lost, deceived or devoted he presents? And which Jesus he presents, the one who commends the widow on her sacrificial giving, or the one who is immensely displeased and angered by her actions of giving all she had to a false religious system that she was deceived by?

SECTION 1

INTODUCTION

PRINCIPLES AND DEFINITIONS OF INTERPRETATION

Let it be known here that this article is not a personal attack against John MacArthur, nor is it a defense for Charismatics/Charismania. It is a critic of MacArthur’s teaching on the Widow who gave two mites at his “Strange Fire Conference” (Trying the Spirits) and his previous teachings “Abusing The Poor” (youtube 2009).

Before we begin it is imperative that I lay before you a few definitions along with seven Hermeneutical principles essential interpretation as in many of MacArthur’s quotes below are said by him to be a face value interpretation.

SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF HERMENEUTIC’S

1. Accept the meaning of Scripture in its most normal, natural, customary sense.

a. The text meant something at the time it was written, our job is to get to that normal, natural meaning, i.e. what did the words mean at the time they were written?

2. Take Scripture in context.

a. What precedes and follows is the best clue to what a particular verse or word or paragraph means.

b. Consider the impact of the context.

3. Compare Scripture with Scripture.

a. The compounding of the individual passages of Scripture dealing with the same subject highlights our understanding on any particular subject or text.

4. Refute all Scriptural contradictions.

a. Until all apparent contradictions are dispelled, truth has not been discovered.

b. If there is a contradiction it is on the part of the interpreter, not on the text. The Word of God has no contradictions.

5. Watch for Near/Far prophetic applications in Scripture.

a. Luke 21 is an example with the destruction of the temple. First in 70 A.D. and then when Christ comes again it will be on a much broader scale.

6. Never Assume.

a. Assumptions is the fault line of interpretation! Assumption leads to insertion. Genetics can be described as a segment of DNA that is inserted into a gene sequence, the result is cloning. A lack of understanding of any biblical text leads one to assume, which in turn channels them to insert one’s own opinion. Injecting man’s opinion into the word of God only produces a mutated result.

7. Never Spiritualize or Allegorize Scripture.

a. Spiritualizing Scripture is simply reading into the text and then adding to it something that otherwise is not there.

b. Allegorizing Scripture is giving a symbolic representation of the text. It’s painting a picture, turning the text into a storyline, generalizing or giving a broad view by turning the text into a narrative account instead of a face value understanding.

DEFINITION OF EXPOSITORY PREACHING:

“Expository preaching involves the exposition, or comprehensive explanation, of the Scripture; that is, expository preaching presents the meaning and intent of a biblical text, providing commentary and examples to make the passage clear and understandable. The word exposition is related to the word expose – the expository preacher’s goal is simply to expose the meaning of the Bible, verse by verse…..While exposition is not the only valid mode of preaching, it is the best for teaching the plain sense of the Bible. Expositors usually approach Scripture with these assumptions.”

DEFINITION of EXEGESIS:

Scholarly interpretation of religious texts, using linguistic, historical, and other methods. In Judaism and Christianity, it has been used extensively in the study of the Bible. Textual criticism tries to establish the accuracy of biblical texts. Philological criticism deals with grammar, vocabulary, and style in pursuit of faithful translation. Literary criticism classifies texts according to style and attempts to establish authorship, date, and audience. Tradition criticism seeks the sources of biblical materials and traces their development. Redaction criticism examines the way pieces of the tradition have been assembled into a literary composition by editors. Form criticism studies the way narratives are shaped by the cultures that produce them. Historical criticism looks at a text’s historical context.

In John MacArthur’s sermon “Abusing the Poor”, I agree with much of what John MacArthur presents in this sermon. However, most of the things I agree with him on are simply other’s erroneous teachings on the text. He points out some commentators interpretations of the widow’s mite text that I have heard over the years and agree that they are in fact not what the text intended i.e. “give all you have and take a vow of poverty,” “give till it hurts,” “it’s all about sacrificial giving,” “it’s all about the money and the amount etc.” although I think he goes overboard on his assumptions of other commentators being wrong and of course the implication that he has it right, He repeatedly points out that that the face value of the text on the widow doesn’t say anything about monetary amounts given, or with what intent it is given etc., he says “it doesn’t say any of those things“….and I agree

I also agree with him on the corruption of the religious system of the temple, the text before the widow’s mention makes that clear.

Luke 20:46-47

“Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, who devour widow’s houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

So I do agree with some of what he says concerning some of the scriptures he uses.

The specific things that I do not agree with John MacArthur on is his “expository” preaching…..because it is not what he is doing. He sets the standard for interpretation of the scriptures and he is correct in what he says to this point. But then he states “I think Jesus….” was displeased,” “I think Jesus was angry,” “….the widow was trying to buy her way into the kingdom” and many, many more “I thinks” and in his assumptions of what the text says he grossly violates the standards he sets.

He pretty much dogs the widow throughout the sermon (although there are snippets where he speaks of her supposedly in kindness) and you are left with literally, according to his teaching, viewing her as a deceived victim of a false religious system, who follows blindly to buy her salvation.
Also, one has to literally take a look at Mark 12:43 “And he called unto him His disciples, and saith unto them” and verse 44 “For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in ALL THAT SHE HAD, EVEN ALL HER LIVING.” Anytime in the scriptures that Jesus called His disciples to Him it was to teach, instruct, and give them understanding. If according to John MacArthur, this text is all about a false religious system; then why would Jesus even mention the widow? It’s clear in the verses above the widow’s text that Jesus proclaims to all that the scribes and Pharisees devour widows houses and are corrupt. He makes this point more than once. And also if Jesus was just looking at face value “how” the people cast into the treasury, how would he have known that the widow had given ALL her living? Of course the answer is He is God and knows all, but He makes it a point of telling His disciples she gave all her living. Why?

MACARTHUR QUOTES

clip_image002“Universally commentators tell us, that our Lord is giving us a little glimpse of true worship, in the middle of the false worship that dominates the temple. They tell us that it’s a beautiful little story in the midst of ugliness. A little light in the midst of darkness. An illustration of giving till it hurts. Contrasted with the selfishness of the spiritual leaders. This is the traditional, the universal explanation of this passage. In fact scholars agree that this is a lesson on giving but interestingly enough they can’t agree on what the lesson is. And if you were to go through say 25 or 30 or 50 or 100 commentators on this passage; they would suggest many lessons. They don’t all agree.”

John goes on to point out several of the “options” the many commentators give for this text. All centered around monetary giving, amounts etc.

clip_image002[1]“In fact ALL(speaking of all the other commentators he previously mentions) of those interpretations are imposed on the text; AND YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT IMPOSING THINGS ON THE BIBLE TEXT, NOT GOOD. You say, why do you say they are imposed? Because Jesus NEVER made any of those points. Jesus never said what’s left behind, what percentage, what attitude or do the same and give everything , He didn’t….Jesus never makes any of those points. He does not say the rich gave relatively too little, they had too much left over. He doesn’t say the rich gave to little of a percent . He doesn’t say the widow gave the right amount. He doesn’t say the rich had a bad attitude and the widow had a good attitude or a good spirit, He doesn’t say that. In fact He doesn’t say anything about their giving”;NOTE: start of video 2 …”except that she gave more than everybody.”

As you go through this sermon you can see that John doesn’t adhere to the set standards of not imposing things on biblical text.

clip_image002[2]“except that she gave more than everybody. He doesn’t say why or with what attitude or whether she should have or shouldn’t have or they should have or shouldn’t have. Her outward action is all that you see. It is no more or less good, bad, indifferent, humble, proud, selfish, unselfish than anybody else’s act. There is no judgment made on her act as to it’s true character. There’s nothing said about her attitude or spirit. She could be acting out of devotion, she could be acting out of love. She could be acting out of guilt, she could be acting out of fear. We don’t know because Jesus doesn’t say anything; He doesn’t say anything about the rich, He doesn’t say anything about the widow, doesn’t draw any conclusions. Doesn’t develop any principles, doesn’t command anything, doesn’t define anything. Why? Because none of that matters. The only thing that I can conclude is, if Jesus wanted to say any of that here He could have said it. If He wanted to say I need to give like the widow, she had a good attitude and she gave the maximum percentage and what she had left behind was little, this is the kind of sacrificial giving we’re after, He doesn’t say that. He doesn’t say anything. The story then is not designed to teach any of those things.”

clip_image002[3]“There’s only one comment that Jesus makes; She gave, with her two copper coins, relatively a great deal more than all the others; because all the others gave out of their surplus, which means they had some left, she gave out of her poverty all she had to live on. That’s all there is. No comment that the Lord appreciated her, no comment that the Lord loved her, commended her, no comment that she was now in the kingdom of God.”

…..Jesus didn’t say “she gave relatively a great deal more that all the others” He said “she gave more than ALL of them”

clip_image002[4]“And He looked up, now stop there, that assumes that He was what?… Looking down, good, that’s lesson one in exegesis. If you looked up, you’ve had to been looking down. That’s really important, really, really important. Mark in a parallel passage Mark 12:41 says He was sitting down. Now you need to understand what’s going on here; in verses 46-47 at the end of the chapter you have that brief, brief statement of beware of the scribes speech; but the full speech is in Matt. 23.

clip_image002[5]John MacArthur goes onto say “This was the sad final message. It’s conclusion is devastating, not only devastating to the leaders, devastating to the nation but devastating to Jesus. This is where all His efforts end”…..

clip_image002[6] ….”so it’s not just the physical weariness it’s the agonizing, sad reality.”…mark 10:11 “and so Mark says He was sitting and His eyes must have been looking down, as He contemplates the damning religion of Judaism and the fact that the temple where He sat; which He had earlier cleansed was so corrupt, it’s religion so ungodly …..”

Yes it does say in Luke 21 that Jesus looked up; however when John goes to Mark 12:41 he only focuses on half the verse about Jesus sitting. If you look at the rest of the verse it says He sat opposite the treasury, AND OBSERVED HOW the people cast money into the treasury…throughout the sermon John steers clear of this part of the verse and leads one to believe that it was more a matter of Jesus being tired as to why He sat down. But if you look at the text and the translation of the words “observed” and “how,” it becomes clear that it was with intent that He did this. Observed = “consider, to be a spectator, to view attentively, discern, to ascertain, find out by seeing, and also, understand. ” The word how= “by what means, after what manner, in what way.” So did Jesus sit down across from the treasury because He was tired? or to watch how the people put money into the treasury? There is a reason that John doesn’t really dwell on this section of the verse.

Let me put it this way; how would you feel, you’re a person who loves the Lord, you’re a person who loves you’re brother, cares about people and cares about their needs. How would you feel if you saw a destitute widow, who only had two coins left to buy her food for her next meal, give those two coins to a religious system? How would you feel? You would say something is wrong with that system. When that system takes the last two coins out of a widows hand. That’s what you would say, and you would be right to say that. Giving your last two coins to a false religious system. How would you feel if you saw a destitute impoverished person, give to her religion her last hope for life to go home perhaps and die? You’d be sick, you’d feel terrible, you would be repulsed . Any religion that is built on the back of the poor is a false religion. What a sad misguided, woeful, poor, victimized lady. It’s sad, tragic, painful and I think that’s exactly how Jesus saw it. He saw that corrupt system taking the last two pennies out of a widows pocket,”

First he says that Jesus was displeased and angry with what she did, then he shifts it to the false religious system, but he has already planted the idea that Jesus was angry with the actions of the widow. Secondly, he starts to lead the congregation to the idea that she will “perhaps go home and die” and poses it as a question, he later makes this a fact in video 5 mark :10 seconds in;

Jesus isn’t commending her, she’s the victim“. video 5 mark :48 “Jesus is certainly not saying, she gave her last cents and that’s what you should do! Of course not, He doesn’t want you to give up everything and go home and die.”

He has already made it a fact that the widow giving her two coins is all about a false religious system, rather than the clear understanding that Jesus sat opposite the treasury to observe “how the people gave” NOT how they gave to a false religious system.

“God doesn’t want a widow to give up her last two cents. You couldn’t find that in the Bible any place. That’s the last thing God would want a widow to do.”

I find it interesting that John makes this statement right after he plants the idea that the widow “perhaps will go home a die.” The only place in scripture where a widow is going to go home and die is in 1 Kings 17:9-12

“Arise, get thee to Zarephath which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering sticks and he called to her and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse; and behold I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

Even though the widow was commanded by God here to give ALL, John fails to mention that part of the text but rather chooses to transpose the “go home and die” into the widow’s mite text. WOW!! and here’s the kicker 1 Kings 17:13-16;

“And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for they son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD endeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.”….She gave ALL and God sustained her and her son!!

video 2 and at the very end of video 1 He is VERY clear and distinct in taking the verse at face value and not reading into the text or assuming what it is saying and then at the 7:10 minute mark he says…..”I think” God was displeased, angered; hummm, so why is he interjecting his own assumptions’ when he just clearly criticized commentators etc. for doing the same????

· Video 3, 4:18 mark

… “this is not an illustration of heartfelt sacrificial giving” ….He know this how? Doesn’t say so in the text. Although I do agree that it is not about “giving” or “money” still he is interjecting even more error into the text.

Video 3, 4:25 mark, John uses the illustration of the servant with the one talent as an example of money management, not mentioning that this servant was cast into outer darkness…. Matt. 25:24-30. Nor does he mention it wasn’t the servants money to begin with, it was the masters money. Nor does he use correct hermeneutics by using this reference of the servant, as the content of the text on the “talents and the servants” has nothing to do with “giving.”

Nothing is said about whether she did it in desperation or devotion, whether she did it in legalism or love; doesn’t say anything about that. The Lord doesn’t commend her, doesn’t make her an example. Doesn’t validate what she did. Doesn’t say it was a worthy spiritual act or that it greatly pleased Him. All He said was, this religious system is preying on widows, this cost her more than everyone else……”….the more desperate they became the more they needed to buy God’s blessing.”

clip_image003“And He sees the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. Rich is polusios in the Greek. It simply means, they had a full supply, those with enough. Not mega rich, very rich, super rich, just, they had enough. Those who could put some in and have some left. The non-poor, people who could make offerings and still have enough to live. In fact Mark 12:41 says they were putting in large amounts, polus, much, they were putting in much. They were putting in a substantial amount then they still had plenty left over.”

Notice how he downplays the interpretation of “rich” at the beginning of his statement as they were “the non-poor” although at the end of the statement he seems to correct this with “they were putting in a substantial amount.” He has already planted the thought that these were not actually “rich.” Strongs definition of rich in this text is “wealthy, abounding in material resources, abundantly supplied” He appears to try and level the playing field between the “rich” and the “poor widow.” Although he doesn’t use the phrase “middle class” he pretty much indicates that the “rich” were really that. Why? So that when he gets to the point where he ties all of this into present day Charismania, many will be able to relate to it.

This is an absurdity. :28 mark “He is observing the corruption of the system that is going to be destroyed, under the leadership of these corrupt condemned leaders.”

Again, what Jesus was OBSERVING? It’s very clear that he was watching the HOW the PEOPLE gave, not the system. See the twist? Also Jesus had already visited the temple prior to this “observation” that John speaks of in (Matt. 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold dove, and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.). So it’s pretty clear that Jesus already knew the system was corrupt.

clip_image002[12]“I THINK, Jesus was not happy, I THINK Jesus was angry and that’s why He says in verse 6, at the things which you are looking at, the days will come in which there will not be left one stone upon another which will not be torn down.”

Again he is assuming and overlaying the content and subjects that don’t pertain to one another in the flow of the context, verse 6 is in reference to the disciples speaking of the temple, NOT anything to do with the widow’s mite.

If you saw a widow give her last two cents to some religious organization, in the hope that she could purchase salvation, or purchase blessing, or buy healing, or buy prosperity, you wouldn’t commend her, you’d want to stop her and you would want to shut down that religious system that preys on the desperate. This act did not please our Lord.”- Again he ASSUMES the intent of the widow.

That’s right, if they send in their money.”

Video 5 mark 7:48 John ties in the destruction of the temple. Again overlaying one topic with another out on context.

Now I have included this quote ” In fact ALL of those interpretations are imposed on the text; AND YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT IMPOSING THINGS ON THE BIBLE TEXT, NOT GOOD. ” And I do agree with it; there are many statements throughout the Strange Fire session that speak on the standards of scriptures, including John MacArthur himself; but I have to wonder at this point if they apply the same standard to themselves? At this point I have to say they don’t. If John MacArthur has been teaching on the story of the widow and turning it into a Charismania signs and wonders tragedy and the sole reason that Jesus said the temple would be destroyed and that the widow after giving all was going home to die…..I have to wonder if any of these men who follow MacArthur have approached him on this error or do they also believe this?

Do they give him a pass because, after all, he does say and preach some true things? Does that sound familiar? This is the same thing I came out of, truth mixed with error. The leaders underlines giving a pass and explaining away (i.e. looking the other way) error. The most astounding thing to me, is there is absolutely no need to twist this scripture to prove that the modern day Charismatic church is steeped in error. As I stated earlier, there are many, many scriptures that prove that, at face value and in context. So the next question is why in the world would John MacArthur take this scripture, turn it into something that’s not face value, it is NOT? I don’t have the answer to that; but I do know that if I follow MacArthur’s own “standard” of understanding these passages of scripture, he is found to be teaching error.

You have to wonder at some point, which Christ or Jesus John MacArthur is preaching and teaching in this text? Where does one draw the line of taking away or adding to the Word of God and in particular, when it comes to Christ’s attributes and character? Even John MacArthur himself believes this, yet he himself has changed, altered, and twisted scripture and its content; thereby altering and changing Christ’s character and attributes when it comes to the rich, poor and the widows. This is certainly a man who should know better. He does, he sets the correct understanding of examining scriptures, that is obvious, even in the Strange Fire sessions and the other speakers were clear on the standards; yet they don’t follow them, themselves.

clip_image002[15]“Luke only gives us a couple of verses regarding our Lord’s warning concerning the Scribes and the Pharisees. Matthew gives us the full account of His message on the dangers of these false religious leaders. It’s chapter 23 verses 1-39. He has pronounced judgment on the leaders and therefore judgment on the nation for following those leaders and rejecting Him.” In Matthew 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.”

This is a misuse and twisting of scripture on more than one level. The only thing that I can think of for this, is he is obviously using, or rather misusing, this section of scripture for his own agenda. Which is really not necessary, since there are more than enough scriptures, in context, that show the false teachings of the prosperity gospel. Ironically the title of the session is “Testing the spirits.”

Jesus did not respond to the widow’s act with “this temple is going to come down, not one stone will be left on another” Jesus didn’t say “THEREFORE” after He spoke of the widow giving more than all. Jesus spoke this to His disciples after they:” saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down”

This has nothing to do with the widow! This is the beginning of chapter 13 where Jesus is about to go into His Olivet discourse on the end times.

I would like to add that although John MacArthur says many things I agree with concerning other erroneous teachings on these scriptures, I find that he is only using that to deflect from his own erroneous teachings and beliefs.

In video 2 I would beg to differ with John on the points of drawing any conclusions, principles and that it doesn’t define anything, in that when Jesus called His disciples and said to them “Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow has cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury. For all they cast in of their abundance, but she of her want did cast in all the she had, even all her living.” The disciples had a clear understanding of what Jesus was saying and so can we, based on what the rest of the scriptures teaches us about the rich, the poor and the widows. This is the end of the story, you don’t read where the disciples said anything to Him or asked for an explanation.

Concluding this section, if you listen to John MacArthur’s messages on the widow with two mites you will hear him say, “It doesn’t say this or that,” “the commentators got it all wrong,” etc. You will also hear him say, “The widow was deceived, buying her way into the kingdom, she was a victim of a corrupt religious system, Jesus was angry with her giving, the religious system will be destroyed as a result, Jesus was tired, that’s why he sat down, etc, etc. John may not speak in tongues, but he does speak with a forked one as none of his statements or opinions are contained in the text either.

SECTION 3

A LOOK AT THE WIDOW

The Gospel of Mark specifies that two mites (Greek lepta) are together worth a quadrans, the smallest Roman coin. A lepton was the smallest and least valuable coin in circulation in Palestine, worth about six minutes of an average daily wage, this was next to nothing in value.1 Today, if we used our current pay scale system it would amount to $1.70 at our current minimum wage. How long do you think $1.70 will sustain someone today? At best, you could buy a donut, maybe a loaf of bread. This may not be that important, however, the two mites the widow gave of her living was not near enough to sustain her yet out of her poverty she gave it and Jesus noted her giving as more than those who gave out of there surplus. The point is, contrary to what John MacArthur said, the widow could have kept her two mites and still went home and died anyway.

Then there is the treasury, a place of deposit for the public treasure. Among the Jews this was the sacred treasury kept in one of the courts of the temple. According to the Talmudists, the treasury was in the court of the women where stood thirteen chests, called from their shape “trumpets,” into which the Jews cast their offerings. It was considered the sacred treasury in which not only treasure but also public records were stored, and the property of widows and orphans was deposited.

This widow was poor, and the God of Israel had such affection for the poor He directly identified with them and required all others to provide for their needs and to give them justice (Psalms 12:5, 34:6; Proverbs 14:31; 19:17). The plight of the poor is one of the issues that matters most to God, and his Law made truly astounding provisions to help them, not the least of which were economic protections:2

  • Gleanings and Harvests: The corners of fields and the grapes dropped by the workers were reserved for the poor (Deuteronomy 24:17; Leviticus 19:9-10). The poor were also allowed to eat from land that lay fallow or idle in the Sabbath years (Leviticus 25:1-7; Deuteronomy 15:1-11).
  • Protection from Creditors: Creditors could not charge interest or keep garments (which provided warmth and doubled as one’s blanket at night), nor could they take the tools of a man’s trade as security for a loan. These provisions ensured people’s ability to earn a living and also prevented extreme hardships (Exodus 22:25-27; Deuteronomy 24:12-13).
  • Right to Timely Wages: The poor worker, whether a stranger or brother, was to receive his wages on the day of his labor, all the more so if he had need of it immediately (Leviticus 19:13; Deuteronomy 24:14-15).
  • Year of Jubilee: Once every 50 years, Jubilee provided a comprehensive program of debt cancellation, liberation from indentured servitude, and the complete restoration of each family’s ancestral property, granting the poor a fresh start (Leviticus 25:8-22).
  • Kinsman Redeemer: Family members were to help each other repurchase their land if they fell into debt and lost it (Leviticus 25:23-34). Family members could also purchase freedom for one another if they were forced into slavery to meet financial needs

(Leviticus 25:47-55). Widows could also be saved from their plight by kinsman redeemers, as in the case of Boaz’s aid to Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi (Ruth 4:1-10).

It is clearly understood that the two mites the widow gave were virtually worthless. She was identified as a poor widow, (Luke 21: 2,3). Interesting is that the two words translated as “poor” in verses 2&3 are two completely different Greek words. In verse two it is penichros simply meaning “needy.” However, after she had given her two mites, Jesus addressed her as a poor widow using the Greek word ptochos which means she was now destitute, afflicted, helpless and powerless. It is used of one who is beggary and destitute of the necessities of life and subsisting on the alms from others. This Greek word also describes a person who may be poor but earns their bread by daily labor. This would fit this widow who Jesus said; “out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had,” speaking of her resources. And although she gave the least where value is concerned, Jesus made it clear she gave more and all those combined who gave out of their abundance.

When you consider the affection God has for the poor and the provisions God placed in the Law to sustain the poor, it becomes a virtual impossibility that Jesus would be angry with this widow’s giving. In fact, the language in this context, combined with the whole of Scripture reveals this widow’s giving to be that of faith. Just consider James 2:5:

“Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor (ptochos) rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him.”

No, contrary to what John MacArthur has taught, Jesus pitied, loved, and commended this widow. There is only one more issue I want to address that flies in the face of what MacArthur states above about the widow’s giving “all” before we close this article, and I quote; “Jesus is certainly not saying, she gave her last cents and that’s what you should do! Of course not, He doesn’t want you to give up everything and go home and die.” He later says, and I quote; “God doesn’t want a widow to give up her last two cents. You couldn’t find that in the Bible any place. That’s the last thing God would want a widow to do.”

As you already have read, God commanded the widow in 1 Kings 17:13-16 to provide for Elijah, all she had was a handful of flour in a bin and a little oil. But by faith, she gave all she had, prepared a cake and gave it to Elijah. Every day after that, until the drought was over, God provided both the flour and oil to sustain the widow and her son. So it can be found in the Word of God Brother John. In fact we have many examples where people gave ALL, some were commanded, for others it was conditional, while others gave all out of free will, let me show you.

Example 1 – The widow in 1 Kings 17, this widow was commanded to sustain Elijah 1 Kings 17:8.

Example 2 – The Rich Young Ruler; this was conditional; Matthew 19:16-22

Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, ” ‘YOU SHALL NOT MURDER,’ ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,’ ‘YOU SHALL NOT STEAL,’ ‘YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS,’ ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER,’ and, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ ” The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.”

When Jesus said, “go, sell what you have,” His meaning was “all” that you have, give to the poor and come follow me. Now, this was conditional, in that, the rich young ruler had to be willing to part with his earthly possessions to obtain treasure in heaven.

Example 3 – The beginning of the Church; this was free will giving; Acts 4:32-35

“Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.”

Early believers expressed the reality of their common life in Christ by practicing a community of goods. Instead of holding on to personal possessions, they looked on their property as belonging to all. They sold land and houses bringing the proceeds to the apostles for distribution. F.E. Marsh wrote a sad parallel to this section from a modern view.

F. E. Marsh’s modern parallel:

One has said, in contrasting the early Church with the Christianity of today, “Is it not a solemn thought, that if the evangelist Luke were describing modern instead of primitive Christianity, he would have to vary the phraseology of Acts 4:32-35 somewhat as follows: … “And the multitude of them that professed were of hard heart and stony soul, and every one said that all the things which he possessed were his own: and they had all things in the fashion. And with great power gave they witness to the attractions of this world, and great selfishness was upon them all. And there were many among them that lacked love, for as many as were possessors of lands bought more, and sometimes gave a small part thereof for a public good, so their names were heralded in the newspapers, and distribution of praise was made to everyone according as he desired.”3

The point is, the early Church held nothing back from the needs of others but were liberal givers, to the point of selling houses and lands.

Example 4 – The Macedonians; Free will giving; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5

Another overwhelming example of liberal giving is the Macedonians who were as the widow with the two mites “poor” (ptochos). These believers had been going through a great trial of affliction yet their joy was so overflowing that when the needs of the saints in Jerusalem was presented to them they gave in a most liberal manner. In fact, Paul said their giving when beyond their ability, they reached deep into their pockets to give what little they had in spite of their poverty. I know, it doesn’t say they gave “all,” however how does one give beyond ones ability? The passage suggest they gave beyond “all.”

Sadly, as F. E. Marsh so eloquently put it, today’s church’s consume most of their offerings, and I’m talking about the Charismatic’s as well as the Reformed, on Salary’s, buildings, Media, etc., and very little, if any, is distributed to the needy, the poor, and the widows. So essentially, all John MacArthur has done in his “Strange Fire Conference” in his “Trying the Spirits” session and in his series “Abusing the Poor” is trade one lie for another, mixing in error with truth just like the Charismatic’s do.

John MacArthur and His Dangerous Ideas About Women

The following is an article I wrote about 2 years ago when the topic came up in a group I once moderated. Since the writing of this article I have become aware of quite a few inconsistencies in John MacArthur’s teachings. These articles, written by another blogger will be posted separately.

I am not a follower of JM’s teachings and I never have been. He simply wasn’t in my loop of liars. John has taken a recent strong stand against “charismania”, and rightly so, but he is quite off in other teachings which makes him just as dangerous as the lies he attempts to expose. I know the masses will hate me, but we are talking about biblical truth, not a popularity contest.

Again, be careful who you follow. And above all, allow the work of the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. Be safe.

” The Feminist Agenda –

a confused mix of biblical teaching regarding the role of women and submission, feminism and Gnostic beliefs. I have no argument with the scriptures JM offers to establish the role of women. Unfortunately, he went off on his own when he states the following –

 

Now all of that is very, very clear. There’s really no way scripturally to evade those things. But it’s amazing to me how confused women are today, even in the church, about their role. And they are confused because there is a massive effort, the troops have been sent out from the fortress called the “Feminist Agenda,” to spread their philosophy throughout this society. Radical feminism has so brainwashed our culture that church leaders and church members have even capitulated to the lies. And as a result, marriage and the family, the primary building blocks of social and moral order, are in shambles. Much of this can be laid at the feet of the Feminist Movement because it has overturned the thinking of women so dramatically that they have abandoned their God-intended role and consequently the family has felt the consequences. Unthinking believers, untaught Christians have become prey to the ideology of the feminists.

 

And frankly, most of us probably have no real idea of what the feminist agenda is at its core. It is frightening and it is fatal. What the public sees is that women want equal pay. Well, you can’t really argue against that. What the public sees is that women want to be free from certain social strictures. Well that’s certainly reasonable. But it goes way beyond that, way beyond that.

 

A cry for equality, a cry for opportunity, a cry for equal privilege to use their abilities unhindered and unrestricted and the rhetoric sounds fairly sensible. But the real agenda is much more serious. Listen to it.

 

I am quite angry that JM believes Christian women are so influenced by the world that they no longer know their roles, as tho we do not hear the Holy Spirit and instead follow the world. Not all of us, but he has no place in his article for real women of God!

 

He continues –

You remember Eve liberated herself from Adam’s authority, plunged the whole human race into sin, wanted to operate independently without the headship of her husband. That’s precisely what Satan wanted. And that’s when it all got cranked up.

 

Nowhere in the word is Eve solely given responsibility for the fall of man as she is here, or are we given evidence that she wanted to operate outside of his authority! (I won’t go into this, but I do have a research article I will link at the end of this one.) Eve was deceived.

The marital relationship is more intimate, personal, and inward than that of a master and slave. That is indicated in Ephesians 5:22 by the phrase “your own husbands.” The husband-wife relationship is built on an intimate possessiveness. The verse seems to imply that it is assumed the wife would willingly respond in submission to one whom she possesses.

 

What if the husband isn’t seeking to fulfill his role? What if he abdicates his position of leadership and leaves it to the wife to be the head of the home? It happens frequently, and especially in the realm of spiritual authority.

 

I once received a letter from a wife who wrote, “I’ve made a terrible mistake. I tried to be submissive to my husband, but he wouldn’t take the leadership. Little by little I took it over, and now I’m dominating and he will never take the leadership. How do I get myself out of this mess?”

 

The answer is, go back to being submissive. Force the issue. If he doesn’t give you leadership to submit to, submit to the things you think he would like. Put yourself in the proper biblical role, and stay out of his. Then encourage him, pray for him, and support him as head of your home in every way you can. Above all, refuse to take dominant leadership of the family. Be obedient to the biblical pattern. Make suggestions and steer him quietly when absolutely necessary, but leave gaps for him to step into.

In real life, we cannot force a person to take on responsibility and no action of ours will ever change that! JM is talking in circles, still putting responsibility and blame on wives that do not belong to them.

 

My advice to women who are in danger of physical injury from their husbands is first of all to try to defuse the situation. Be careful not to provoke any circumstances that will make your husband become violent. Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turns away wrath.”

 

Here he is again putting the responsibility of the actions of a husband on the wife. Anyone who works with abused women know this is simply impossible. JM is acting out of his authority and realm of understanding, even going as far as to put women in danger, when he makes comments like this one. There is nothing one person can do to diffuse the actions of another, especially an abuser.

 

 

If a violence-prone husband becomes agitated and abusive, the wife should remove herself from danger, by leaving the home if necessary. God has promised that He will not test us beyond our ability to endure, but will always make a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). Sometimes escape is the only way. If you have children and they are in danger, take them someplace where you will be secure until you feel you may safely come back.

 

Abusers never provide a safe environment, and it is impossible to know when the next incident of abuse will occur because they live in cycles. A woman is never safe in that environment – never.

 

If you are not truly in any physical danger, but are merely a weary wife who is fed up with a cantankerous or disagreeable husband–even if he is an unbeliever who is hostile to the things of God–God’s desire is that you stay and pray and sanctify that husband by your presence as a beloved child of God (1 Corinthians 7:10-16). The Lord will protect you and teach you in the midst of the difficult time.

Of course, pray for your husband, submit to him in every way you can, encourage him to seek advice and counsel from other biblically-knowledgeable men–and do everything you can to heal the problems that cause him to be angry or abusive.

 

Again, he is wrong in this advice and has no place and no right to advise women in such a way. We cannot “heal” another person, nor can we do anything to prevent them from becoming abusive or violent in their actions. We do not “sanctify” anyone and many women die in their own homes at the hands of violent husbands. Where is the Lord’s protection? We have not been called to stupidity. When women are abused, they leave, period, and most should never return. I will have words with anyone who preaches, teaches or speaks otherwise. God never called us to die at the hands of our husbands!

 

In these two articles, he says some very good things. But in the role of husbands and wives, he is playing up to the husbands, placing blame and responsibility on the wives that is not theirs to carry.

 

These are just some of the problems I have found. I won’t go into an exhaustive biblical exhortation, because we should all know better. Truly, JM sounds as though he is advocating for Islamic beliefs in the rule of marriage, yes, rule – and not those of Christianity.
