a retelling of the good news

aaahhh – is she posting? Is she actually writing something? Oh, she is!

I believe that God created man in His own image. Two of them to begin with, who were placed in a beautiful place to live, without hassles. God walked with them and spoke to them every day and enjoyed the company of His creation and called it good. Eventually these created beings made the wrong choice out of their God-given right to free will, the right to choose. They did not listen to God, their Father, but listened instead to a well-formed lie woven by a crafty manipulator. They called the lie the truth and found that it was good. They were banished from paradise and the hassles of life as we know it began.

After that God made many covenants and attempts to reconnect with His people throughout time. He gave them laws and blessings and waited patiently, with what He refers to as longsuffering, (we say this loooonnngsuuuuferrrrriiiiiinnnnngggg) for them to respond. But man’s heart, despite all the good given to him, is wicked. Man continue to fail and to live in sin by making bad choices through the act of  – again – God-given free will. I want to add here that man’s continued failure came as no surprise to God. This is an important point because the next thing  – the greatest thing – was not God’s plan B. God was not like Ford Motor Company who some decades ago needed to get a better idea. No, this plan, this one plan to end all plans had been there before even the foundation of the earth. He just had it tucked in His back pocket for the right time to come rolling around. Waiting is not a problem to God because to Him one thousand years is like a day. You and I can’t hardly wait for the next payday to come rolling around, much less the next thousand years!

Ok. So enter Jesus. Yes. Jesus. Yeshua. The Messiah, the one and only son of the Most High God. Jesus, although He is called the Son of God is really God Himself, God in the flesh and as we are told He is called Immanuel. And, wait because it gets better. Jesus, the son of the Most High God, the one sent to deliver God’s people was born of a virgin named Mary – just a little bit of a girl really, not a big bustling woman, not a well-known well dressed woman of the world that all the girls looked up to, just little bitty Mary who had never once had sex.

An angel, a real one not called Emma, visited Mary and told her that the Lord had found favor with her and that she was going to have a child and that the name would be Jesus. When she asked how that was to be, her having still been a virgin, the angel not called Emma told her that she would be visited by the Holy Spirit.  This is a true visitation because the same angel told Mary’s boyfriend Joseph the same thing. Then, nine months later she indeed gave birth to a baby boy, the one who would even deliver her. As a woman and a mother this astounds me. Some days we have thoughts or realizations that make us feel like we ran splat right into a wall. This is one of them and it happens every time I think that a young girl gave birth to the one who would deliver and save anyone who called on His name – the name above every name. Jesus is the one who came to bring people back into relationship with God. He came to fix that bad decision made by free will that banished man from paradise. The one that made us have kids with runny noses who wouldn’t do what we said despite our blessings and rules. The kids who insist on doing things their own way. The ones with free will. Ahem.

There’s another splat into the wall moment coming up. Jesus grew into a man and began to teach all who would listen about the Father and about the kingdom of God. He chose twelve men who liked to make bad decisions, but they listened and believed in Him. Because Jesus is God He could tell the condition of the hearts of those around Him. Many hated this because they wanted to continue to live out their lives of the lie, the one that began by the crafty manipulator so long ago. Oh no. Crafty never left the scene. He’s always been there. So in their blindness and their insistence on being right – their pride – and because of their kinship to Crafty, they hated Jesus and planned to get rid of Him. But many others loved Him and to those He gave forgiveness of sin and eternal life.

Jesus taught his disciples many things and spoke of His own death and the coming of the Holy Spirit who He also referred to as the Comforter. He told them that the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin, which is the need to make those dumb free will choices, and that He would lead them into all truth. Then the dark and dreadful day came that Jesus was arrested and taken from them. He was brought to a court where His destiny had already been decided. They mocked Him even though He loved them they beat Him nearly unrecognizable. Then they put nails in His hands and feet and hung Him up that way to die on a cross.

This is what I do not understand.  People can read this story and those facts of the savage brutality, which was an act of wicked, wicked hearts, and they are not moved. Yet, those very same people will rise up against someone who mistreated a dog.

Only three people remained to watch Jesus die. Only three. One was His mother Mary. Then they took Him down, loving wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him alone in a tomb. Have you buried a child?

Those who hated Jesus thought it was the end. The crafty one thought he had won and that people would forever be under his rule. He often thought more of himself than he should and is how he ended on his belly.  See? They were all wrong. Jesus rose on the third day, defeating the death of the cross, winning the battle and proving to all that He is indeed God. Because no one has the power to overcome death but God himself. Kinda lets the umph out of those vampire stories, huh? Team Edward, Team Jacob sorry, you lose too.

So let’s look at this because for a long time I never got the Jesus gotta die thing. When the two were removed from paradise and were banished it was because of their sin in not doing what God said. Sin leads to death. Don’t debate it in your mind just accept it as fact because as  humans it will never make sense. It is necessary to give life to live, so then God came to earth to die in our place so that if we believe in Him we will not die but live forever. Yes, there is a physical death but then we live again with Him. It’s another wall moment because God who is capable of anything could have done any of it or all of it differently but chose not to. That is His love. Don’t miss that point because it is the greatest. And if you decide to do the free will thing here and miss it you will die in your sin and it will be too late to change your mind later on.

Jesus appeared to His disciples and again, taught them, ate with them, comforted them. The first person who saw him was not a man, but a woman. Ha. I love that. It’s one up for the girls. Jesus told His disciples He would be leaving them. He told them to go and wait in a room for the gift to come. As they spoke He went up into the heavens and they watched Him go. Again, there was a visit from an angel, this one wasn’t Emma either, who told them they would see Him come again in the same way they saw Him leave. Translated this means that Jesus will be in the heavens the next time we see Him! The Message says Jesus disappeared mysteriously. Don’t read the Message. It is a book authored by the crafty one, yes, he has books, and this one is a well hidden fact.

The disciples and followers of Jesus went to the room and waited. It was their turn for longsuffering. They were obedient to the instructions of their Lord and were given the gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He came with might and power. He came with great authority and as Jesus said He would, He convicted the people of sin. Many were saved – 3,000 at time and the church of Jesus Christ grew in number and influence. They knew they had the free will choice to do stupid and purposeless things. They knew that they  could leave at any moment and return to their homes and to their jobs and wine vats. But they chose something different. They chose to hear the word and they received it well. Many of them gave their lives so that others could hear the news of Jesus Christ. And to this day it continues. That is the basic story of the gospel of Jesus Christ that is to be preached to all creatures to the ends of the earth.

And you thought Steven Spielberg could tell stories!

Jesus came to earth in a way that the people did not expect Him to. They were waiting for a ruler to restore their kingdom. Jesus told them His kingdom is not of this world. I have no doubt that the Holy Spirit came in a way that they did not expect either. Who could prepare for such power? Have you ever spoken the word of God to someone and you knew there’ s no  way those words could have come from you? That was the Holy Spirit. It’s a kapow deal. A step up from the wall moment. But make no mistake, the Holy Spirit is Jesus, He is God and in that He is distinct. Crafty has his own distinctions and men have once again traded the truth for the lie and called it good. Catch that.

This is a simplified version, my having had no forethought on this at all! – and that is the point. It is simple. But, its such a crazy story  – not my retelling but the real complete unabridged one found in the bible.  And still some days, even though I believe and know that it is true I wonder why… or how. It is bizarre to my human, selfish mind why God would go and do the things He went and did. But, I think that’s the point.

Who else would do such a thing but God Himself?

splat right into the wall.

True it has been quite some time since I have written anything. I write this today in honor of Jesus Christ who is everything the bible claims He is. Today is the 1st anniversary of Steven’s death, my husband’s beautiful son. I write this in honor of Christ who does give us life abundant. In Him there is peace, there is joy and the hope of things to come when we see Him in the clouds on a day when there will be no more tears or sorrow or death. Then day when God makes all things new. He holds all our tears in a bottle, ya know?

Stir up the Gift of God

Stir Up the Gift of God

April 12, 2010 — Mike Ratliff

by Mike Ratliff

13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. 15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. (1 Timothy 4:13-16 ESV)

The way the gospel is presented in our time is backward. It is focused incorrectly. Instead of focusing on what God has done for us who have nothing in and of ourselves to warrant it; the way the gospel is given ever since I can remember is to attempt to make it appealing as if people should decide to try Jesus for 30 or 60 days to see if He makes a difference. What a joke! What blasphemy! To be honest, the closer I get to the front lines in serving my Lord, the more our enemy attacks me. The more I suffer. The more problems I have. However, I do not serve my Lord to get away from that stuff. I serve Him for His glory and my Lord went to the Cross for me so how can I seek the easy way out here and now?

If a person wants Jesus for personal gain then they are seeking another Jesus, not the one I know. The one I know has given me something far more valuable than anything this world has to offer. I have eternal life in Him and no matter how bad the circumstances or attacks from our enemy or medical conditions I must bear in this life, I know that my part until it is over is to stir up the gift of God given to me by Him in order for me to serve Him to edify the Body of Christ and bring Him glory. Therefore, I open the Word of God and teach as He directs.

3 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4 As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:3-7 ESV)

(2 Timothy 1:3-7 GNT)

Paul tells Timothy that he thanks God for him and his sincere faith, which was also evident in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Because Paul was confident in the sincerity of Timothy’s faith, in v6, he reminds him ἀναζωπυρεῖν  “to fire again to life” τὸ χάρισμα τοῦ Θεου “the gift of the God” ὅ ἐστιν ἐν σοὶ διὰ τῆς ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν μου· “which is in you through the setting on of the hands of me.” For a summary of this event read 1 Timothy 4:13-16, which I placed at the top of this post.  Paul is urging Timothy to do what? The word ἀναζωπυρεῖν refers “to keeping the fires alive.” Timothy had received spiritual gifts to serve the Body of Christ. Paul is concerned here with Timothy’s gifts of preaching, teaching, and evangelizing. All believers are stewards of the God-given gifts given to them. It is sinful to let them fall into disuse.

In v7 Paul gives us a hint of why Timothy may have been not using his gifts as he should have been. The word Paul used here that is translated as “fear,” δειλίας, can also be translated “timidity” or “cowardice.” It denotes a cowardly, shameful fear caused by a weak, selfish character. Timothy could have become more timid as the threat of Roman persecution escalated. Also, the Ephesian church resented Timothy’s leadership. This coupled with the many attacks from false teachers could have overwhelmed him. Paul is telling Timothy here that if he is withdrawing in fear then this “Spirit of δειλίας” is not from God. Instead, God has given us the πνεῦμα δυνάμεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ σωφρονισμου, the spirit of power and of love and of sober mind (self-control).

Instead of being fearful, we have all the spiritual resources we need for every trial and threat. This does not mean we will not have problems, attacks, or threats, but that we will have the right resources from Him to meet them. The Love here, ἀγάπης, centers on pleasing God and seeking what is best for others before one’s self. The mind-set σωφρονισμου is actually the opposite of fear and cowardice. The spirit of fear causes disorder and confusion. This spirit does the opposite. Why? It focuses on the sovereign nature and perfect purposes of our eternal God. Why is this important? When we more fully understand the sovereignty of God and surrender to it in more and more of our lives, the more godly wisdom and confidence in every situation we will have because we will be fully in line with Him and His will instead of being tossed in every direction by our circumstances.

How do we fan into flames the gift given to us by God that He gave us to enable us to serve the Body of Christ and bring Him glory? We must reject the πνεῦμα δειλίας, the spirit of fear, while embracing the πνεῦμα δυνάμεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ σωφρονισμου, the spirit of power and of love and of sober mind. We reject what is not from God and embrace that that we know is from God. This is huge. I suffer from a seizure disorder. Its worsening has coincided almost exactly with God’s elevation of this ministry. I have had several seizures since this condition returned in September last year. In fact, I had one just a week ago. I became spiritually fearful. I was bold when I wrote and taught, but the rest of the time I was not doing so well. I saw a picture of myself holding my grandson last week. It was about three days after the seizure. I looked haunted or worried. What has changed? I had a long talk with my brother about spiritual things. We talked about the spirit of fear and what this does to the boldness of those in ministry. I discovered that my physical symptoms had actually gotten worse. I felt awful. I felt all bound up. He, my wife, my daughter, my son-in-law, and my mother all laid hands on me last week and prayed for the spirit of fear to be gone. My brother did pray for my healing, that I would have no more seizures. That would be awesome, but I am celebrating the fact that the joy of Lord is most certainly back. I am no longer all bound up. The spirit of fear is gone. The boldness I have now is now also accompanied by a joy that is profound. The gift given to me by God has been fanned into flames!

8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. (2 Timothy 1:8-12 ESV)

The more God uses us in the Kingdom, the more we will be partakers in the suffering for the gospel by the power of God. This is just the way it is. Notice that our salvation and our calling are for God’s purposes not ours nor are they according to our works. When we have this mindset, we can endure anything.

Soli Deo Gloria!

How to Discern a True Work of the Spirit by Bob DeWaay

Audio link and teaching notes follow~

Recently I received a comment from Norcal with a link to a teaching by Bob DeWaay, “How to Discern a True Work of the Spirit”. I think this is perfect timing for those who are struggling with the truth behind these “revival and outpouring meetings” which are just revving up again.  From my own experience and that of others it can be hard to determine what exactly is going on in these meetings and videos.

When these well known and supported men and women come in the name of the Lord, making claims of healing, salvation, restoration, miracles, signs and wonders we often make the mistake these claims are true because they sound so good. And the truth is, they can be pretty close to the truth.

A quote from Charles Spurgeon –Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right .

This is why we need each other and why we are described as a body (Romans 12:3-8) Each of us has a function just as each of us has a part. Together, under the headship of Christ, through the the work of the Holy Spirit we support each other and contribute that which has been given to us. Then we are able to better discern, to help those who struggle and to better support the body!  Of course we all need to be grounded in the Word of God.  There is no excuse to not be!

Following are the thoughts from Norcal:

While studying and preparing to teach our small group “how to test the spirits”, I came across Bob DeWaay’s sermon titled, “How to Discern a True Work of the Spirit”.

It’s the simplest, bottom-line method I’ve heard for testing the spirits. In short, the premise is based on Jesus’ words in John 16:13-14, “However when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14) He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.”

The work of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus…the birth, life, work, ministry, substitutionary death and resurrection of Jesus. In other words, the gospel.

All meaningless signs (laughing, shaking, gold dust, drunkenness, etc) that don’t glorify Jesus in the proclaiming of the gospel are proofs that their source is not the work of the Holy Spirit.

Here are the teaching notes–

How to Discern a True Work of the Spirit

Bob DeWaay   November 4, 2007   Twin City Fellowship

“The Spirit of Truth . . . He will bear witness of Me” (John 15:26)

How to discern spirits

1John 4:1, 2

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;

How to discern spirits

1John 4:3, 5

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them.

The Holy Spirit motivates believers to confess the truth about Christ

1Corinthians 12:3

Therefore I make known to you, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

Testimony about Jesus is the work of the Holy Spirit who inspires all prophecy

Revelation 19:10

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

True prophets testified about Christ

1Peter 1:10, 11

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful search and inquiry, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

The Holy Spirit inspired true prophets

2Peter 1:20,21

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

False prophets “deny the Master”

2Peter 2:1

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

They deny the master by “going to far” and not “abiding” in the teaching of Christ

2John 1:9

Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.

The Holy Spirit Testifies of Christ

John 15:26

When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness of Me,

The Holy Spirit Testifies of Christ

Numbers 24:2, 17 (NKJV)

And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.  . . . . “I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult.”

John the Baptist testified of Christ

Luke 3:16

John answered and said to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

Simeon Testified of Christ

Luke 2:25, 26

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Simeon Testified of Salvation

Luke 2:27 – 30

And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,  “Now Lord, Thou dost let Thy bond-servant depart In peace, according to Thy word; For my eyes have seen Thy salvation,

God testifies as the Holy Spirit descends on the Son

Luke 3:22

and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well-pleased.”

Jesus testifies about Himself

Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are downtrodden,”

To blaspheme the Holy Spirit who anoints “Messiah” and who testifies of Him is to never be “released” from sin.

Luke 12:10

And everyone who will speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven [lit. “released”] him.

By the Spirit they will testify of Christ

Matthew 10:18 – 20

and you shall even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, do not become anxious about how or what you will speak; for it shall be given you in that hour what you are to speak. For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

Witnesses in the power of the Spirit

Luke 24:46 – 49

and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the dead the third day; and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. and behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The Holy Spirit will empower them to testify of Christ

Acts 1:8

but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.

Peter testifies of Christ

The Apostles witness to Christ

Acts 4:31, 33

And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the word of God with boldness. . . And with great power the apostles were giving witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all.

Stephen testifies and is martyred

Acts 7:55, 56

But being full of the Holy Spirit, he [Stephen] gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

Paul is filled with the Holy Spirit

Acts 9:17

And Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Spirit filled Paul immediately proclaims Christ

Acts 9:20

and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.”

Confession and Abiding

1John 4:13 – 15

By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Knowing the true work of the Spirit

1John 4:2, 3

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

Applications and Implications

1) Confessing Christ is not merely uttering words

2) Overcomers are born of God and believe the truth about Jesus Christ

1)      Confessing Christ is not merely uttering words

Matthew 7:22, 23

“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’”

1)      Confessing Christ is not merely uttering words

Matthew 7:24

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock.

2)      Overcomers are born of God and believe the truth about Jesus Christ

1John 5:4, 5

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world– our faith. And who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

2)      Overcomers are born of God and believe the truth about Jesus Christ

Revelation 3:5

“He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.”

2) Overcomers are born of God and believe the truth about Jesus Christ

Matthew 10:32, 33

“Everyone therefore who shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.”

It is time for Christians from all over the world to join together and seek after God with hunger and anticipation for what He has in store for us. It is time for many houses to work together, with all God’s people ready for the harvest.

This year, TACF’s Unveiling Conference will be a time when three streams of revival (TACF, IHOP Kansas City, and Iris Ministries) join together in one accord to seek after the kingdom of God and to listen to what the voice of God is saying at this time. Join many from around the world to chase after our Bridegroom and set our hearts on His love for us and His plan for our lives in the next season.

Mike Bickle and Heidi Baker, along with John and Carol Arnott, are fervently seeking God in this season which many believe are the end times. They are all crying out for the Spirit of God to reach people everywhere, and that the prophetic voice of God’s people will bring change to our cities and nations.

This conference will be packed with amazing worship, cutting-edge teaching from powerful men and women of God, and practical workshops to strengthen your walk with God. Don’t miss out on this chance to be impacted by God. Sign up today.

False Healing Impartation

Matthew 10:7-8  As you go, preach, saying “The kingdom of Heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”

This is the stuff I came out of – (false) HEALING –

Randy Clark was one of the speakers (along with Bill Johnson) at the one and only IAHR (International Assoc of Healing Rooms -Cal Pierce/John G. Lake) conference I attended a few years ago in Spokane. He also was very influential in the spiritual life of the Healing Rooms Director I worked with.  I have a video of Randy and Todd at Lakeland on my blog doing that impartation thing –electrocution style. Impartation is a very big thing in charismania. I’m sure it’s were I picked up the demons. Bad stuff.

Watch it here to see if you really want to be a part of the teaching and impartation offered by Randy and his cohorts- and hear them discuss the connection between Todd Bentley, Randy Clark and the Toronto Blessing – Lakeland Electrocution Impartation

A man cannot impart spiritual gifts, power, anointing, knowledge or wisdom into another. Those things are given through God alone. The Holy Spirit IS God, so how can a man who teaches improper things and false doctrine impart Him to you? It cannot be done. Let me warn you. Watching and listening to false teaching in agreement  is enough to invite demons into your life. If you open your mind to the thought that “maybe they are right, maybe they know more than I” you have opened a door for deception. The devil will be very happy to lead you further astray. This is what happened to me.

Link to Randy Clark’s ministry – Global Awakening (There’s that word again – AWAKENING) Does this sound like it has anything to do with Christ or the gospel?

Again, in these teachings and ministries they completely deny the work of the Holy Spirit in believing THEY are the carriers of His presence.  THEY have the answer to why people don’t heal when they are prayed for. Forget the sovereignty of God. Word of Faith has the answer everyone is looking for. They spin off of Ken Hagin’s stuff.  It’s witchcraft repackaged!

It is God who heals. We pray, He moves. Not everyone gets healed and we do not know why. It is not our place to know. It is not even our place to ask or to question God.  I don’t care how many times they spit out the word intimacy, there are some things we are not to know. Isaiah 55:8 For My thoughts are not  your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. Those who do not walk in the Spirit led lifestyle will go after other knowledge and claim to know things the rest of us do not. Whatever they are selling, even if they offer it for free – you do not want it.

Acts 8:18-24 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 and when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” 24 Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

Simon was a new believer as noted in verse 13, having had been a sorcerer. Being so new to the faith it is easy to be mistaken. Peter pointed his sin out to him in without haste and Simon repented. These gnostic laden teachers are not new believers and are therefore without excuse.

After all, where we we when God hung the stars into place and set the planets into orbit? Can we tell God how that is done? No. We cannot. (Those who think otherwise should read the last few chapters of Job.) Where we we when God formed Adam out of the dust of the ground creating intricate parts of the body that miraculously work together? We cannot tell Him how creation of man is done. We cannot tell Him how to heal a person. And we cannot tell another how to heal a person. Healing comes only from the power of God Himself through His choice to heal or to not heal. It will never come through a man made method or decree or proclamation, nor by study course or impartation!

It certainly does not come from healing energy, (see their message below) which sounds very much like Reiki, a Japanese technique for reducing stress and promoting healing through the laying on of hands. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.Read more here – What is Reiki

Be careful, be wise and ask the Lord to give us all greater discernment in these times.

Always Reaching, Never Finding

After I left the healing room ministry I began to do additional research into what they believed and taught others. It’s pretty much the same Word of Faith garbage repacked and sold by Cal Pierce, International Association of Healing Rooms out of Spokane WA.

I did quite a bit of research using my bible and a concordance – the resources I already had in my home. I didn’t have to go out an buy an expensive dvd or cd set or take a bunch of courses or pay hundreds of dollars to see the truth the way I did to see the lie. Imagine. Freely you have received, freely give. (Who said that?)

So after my research I put all of the information together along with a personal explanation and sent it off to all the members of the healing room, past and present.  None of them left the ministry, and only a couple asked questions. But, to my knowledge not one of them took to heart the truth of the scripture against the lie of the so called ministry. They continue to follow their heralded “famous one” who leads them to the path of apostasy who teaches them if a person is not healed there is a reason why and usually the problem is within.

Sadly, I see the ministry I left and those I warned plan to continue with teaching their “How To’s” this coming weekend. And all for a bargain price of $20! After all, they have the secret formula for healing! So, I wonder why they are sick? Why they need breathing machines to sleep at night, why they take medication or end up in the ER, why do they wear glasses and why are they overweight? Why do they go through surgeries and medical procedures and suffer bad effects from the medications? Why do their bones break or muscles pull? Why does the food they eat disagree with them?  Why do they succumb to seasonal viruses or request that those who are sick keep away from them? Why? Are they not all healed? NO. – -NO NO NO!!

Then how can they possibly continue on with such a mindless charade of lies that physical healing is in the atonement and it is part of a believer’s heritage to live disease free? Can someone else please tell them that we, even if we are saved, are still fallen, subject to sickness and disease?  If you have ever known someone who is chronically ill you will see from them that the miraculous is not so much in a person’s healing, but in they way they effect others while they are sick. It is in their testimony that they still stand and worship God and believe in Him and trust in Him despite the illness!  It is because they have purposed in their heart “Thy will be done.” These are the true faithful ones. So they do not have a need to go running around from place to place, in a crazed frenzy seeking out that healing, going from church to conference in cars, trains and airplanes spending their very last nickel to “get some healing” or “experience God’s tangible presence in this place with a special anointing” or visit that special person who is famed to “have the anointing on him/her, or who moves in the gift of…“. Because they have found it is NOT all about “me”.

But this is the topic they will be teaching on this weekend, How to Heal Biblically, or healing the way Jesus did. Listen, I was with them for almost 3 years and I only saw one person get healed during that time. Only one! Has anyone posed the question that if it were really God’s will to heal then why don’t the people heal? Crazy.

We know Jesus laid hands on the sick and they were healed instantly. We know He told his disciples to heal the sick and they did. We also know we do not see that same amount of healing today. We don’t know why. But, there are plenty of ministries like this one that will make you believe they have the answer to that question and they are happy to teach them to you. Believe me, these so called “answers” are not found in the bible.  See my writing Are All Healed.

They will also teach that there are such things as generational sins or curses, this is “sins of the father” that are passed from one generation to the next. This is old testament, and not true of a believer. Repentance brings forgiveness and we are not held responsible for another person’s choices. Jesus took the curse for us on the cross. All of them. Galatians 3:13  See my article on Generational Curses.

While it may be true there were special places of worship and of God’s visitation in the old testament, it is not the norm for a new testament believer. We are given the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as part of the new covenant, which old testament believers did not have. There is no need to visit a place of healing or a faith healer.  When we are taught otherwise we are being taken back to the old covenant and in doing told to ignore or forget the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  And when we believe these lies we are following after another gospel and have perverted the faith. Consider how many of these deceived and false teachers refer to the old testament rather than the new.  They are taking Jesus out, just like unbelievers. It is ok to believe in God, just not His one and only Son.

These healing room ministries are all about the person – the healing, the gifting, the anointing, the authority. Yes, Jesus is in there somewhere, but He is not the head because it’s only His name that is used.  If He were the head there would not be such an emphasis on the person. And in this environment where there is supposed gifts like wisdom, teaching, prophecy, revelation, dreams and visions and gifts of intercession, there is also something called jealousy.  Yes! Looking at others wanting what they have, coveting, not being content in their own gift. But such a thing  called- contentment – is not the way of satan, who himself claimed to Eve that she could could be like God! Never content, always wanting more, wanting even demanding through crazy decrees and proclamations to speak things that are not as though they were forgetting this refers to God, not man! Going after what is out of their human reach or design to have, to know or to understand – out of God’s perfect will. Is this not the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life warned about in (1 John 2:16)?

Always reaching, never finding.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4  3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.  4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted–you may well put up with it!

more pentecostal than the pentecostals: a testimony

The following came as a comment under one of my articles – a trip in charismania.  There are so many similarities in our experiences. Again, another eye witness to the false prophetic, healing, charismatic, etc. Since I put this up I have noticed some misunderstanding about this testimony so I want to clarify for future or repeat readers. This is not a crack against Pentecostals. Nor is the author taking a stand against practices taught in the bible for prayer, forgiveness, sin, intercession, healing, etc. She is speaking from 35 years spent in the false and excesses of those teachings, which I refer to as charismania.  Following the article is a great discussion that I had with someone who came upon this article. It was an opportunity that I had to explain the differences and hash it out a little more.  If time permits, you may want to have a look at our discussion in the comments section.

mk

I love to see people coming out and not going in…..to all this deception and craziness. For me it was 35 years! More Pentecostal than the Pentecostals! I ‘ministered’ in many areas and travelled the world….until I began to cry out for God to show me His truth through the Holy Spirit.

There were too many strange and bizarre happenings based on experience that didn’t line up with the Word of God. Satan and his demons always made sure all my expectations were fulfilled in the areas of feeling warm and fuzzy and causing supernatural things to happen. After all the Bible describes him as an angel of light….that makes it difficult to tell the difference between truth and deception….that is of course if one is not measuring everything by the Word.

I worked in the area of ‘breaking generational curses’….’setting people free from freemasonry, cults, sickness etc’ I was recognised as a’prophet’ and a lot of the ’stuff’ I forecast was totally true……(BUT coming from demonic powers). I ‘delivered’ people from demons and took them back in their memory so they could be healed by ‘jesus’.
I could go on and on but there is no need and the only reason I share this much is to try and help others who are deceived like me. Now, after having studied the Word, like I should have done in the first place instead of looking for experiences and listening to men, I know without a doubt….I was operating under demonic guidance and was nothing but a clairvoyant and deceived person. There are no generational curses, we cant use excuses for our behaviour and need to call it sin and repent…there are however consequences for making ungodly choices but Jesus became that curse for us (and anyway it was God who ordained curses and blessings for a certain time and generation in the old Testament) when He died on the cross.

We cannot ’stand in the gap’ as it were and repent on behalf of our country or another person….only that person can repent for his own sins. We cannot ‘bind’ satan or demons..that is taken from twisted scripture. The only time satan is bound is in Revelation by an angel and thrown into the pit. You cannot ‘break the power of freemasonry’ over someone….you do not have that power! Reading through screeds of renunciation papers will not set anyone free! The only way they can be freed is by God in His sovereign grace giving them the gift of repentance….that’s right, we even have to rely on Him for that!

We can’t ‘heal’ people from memories in their past…..the jesus who appears to comfort is a counterfeit and no where in scripture does it say we are to try and do that. Paul says…this one thing I do…..FORGETTING what lies behind, I press on, toward the goal. We are to lay our burdens down ….not go searching deep within our souls for past hurts and wounds. We are not to seek self satisfaction or to try and love ourselves…(that all based on man and psychology) We already love ourselves…too much….. but we are to take up our cross daily and follow Christ.
We are not to use some cultish babble in our prayers to God, Paul was chastising the Corinthian church for going back to their pagan ways and speaking in ecstatic tongues so they could have a mind altering experience. The Mormons and different cults and religions do this today….why oh why would we want to do this and waste hours in deception thinking we are talking to God when Jesus showed us plainly how we are to pray. “Our Father who art in Heaven”

Oh there is so much more….the totally plain and simple reason for all that happened during that soooo special time in history was to prove Jesus was the Messiah come to earth as had already been foretold many years ago………and the miracles for the Jews, but they still didn’t believe, so the Gentiles were grafted in.

To all those who have ‘come out’ I say “Praise God” but make sure you study the Word and grow in the ways of God. To those of you who are searching, can I please say…..don’t hang around any longer, get yourself out of that Pentecostal environment as fast as you can. We are living in a time like never before and we have been warned so many times that this was going to happen. The worst part is people don’t want the truth, they are listening to seducing spirits.

Remember everything we need to live this life in a Godly way is in His Word. He has spoken through it and doesn’t need messed up men and women to add to His Word. It is finished! All we need for life and Godliness is there.

Blessings

Holy Spirit Manifestations

Just a note:  This is not intended as a complete article on the Holy Spirit. It is quite long, but don’t let that intimate you or keep you from reading all it has to say, even if you need to make more than one visit.

While I chose to call it Holy Spirit Manifestations, it’s really an article in argument as to the truth of the Holy Spirit.  So while it’s purpose is to address those strange bodily manifestations we get all excited about, it does so in light of the scripture as a comparison to what is claimed by man and taught by God through His word.

As God will not violate His character or His word I felt it was important to look at not only manifestations, but also the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit.   When we see the truth as a whole it is easier to recognize the counterfeit.

Be blessed.   mk

For a great number of years Christians have been experiencing strange manifestations of the body. These often, but not always, happen while another person prays for them in the “laying on of hands”.  They have also been known to happen during times of deep worship. Such strangeness include falling down, (aka “slain”), odd bodily sensations, the feeling of heat or cold,  shaking, and other strange involuntary movements of the limbs often without the power of thier own to stop them.  These are attributed to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.  But are they?

In addition, the Holy Spirit is explained as a weighty, tangible presence which is not only felt but can be passed from person to person.  You have to wonder if God, the Most High God who spoke all that we see into existence can actually be passed like a football.

In doing my own research, here is what I came up from using the Word of God, rather than the word of man.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is given upon salvation to empower the believer to fulfill the great commission.  We are told in the Word to be filled with the Holy Spirit.  Here is how Jesus taught of the Spirit’s coming, He would bring truth and glorify Jesus, testify of Jesus and convict the world of sin.

John 16:13-15

13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and he will tell you things to come.  14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 “All things that the Father has are Mine, Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

John 15:26-27

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.  27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

John 16:8-11

8 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment; 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment because the ruler of this world is judged.

These teachings regarding the Holy Sprit and even His character are quite different than what we are being taught and are experiencing today.  The Holy Spirit does not have His own personality. He is not a tangible presence that can be passed to another believer through touch (impartation) or by breathing or blowing on a person. He cannot and will not be commanded to do things by people. He is God, not a genie at our disposal.

Anointing From God

1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

1 John 2:26, 27

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.     27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Luke 4:18

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor: He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.

Gifts and anointing are given to born again believers directly from God as He wills and to aid the believer fulfilling the great commission. They are given for the sole purpose of completing God’s plans and purposes on the earth and for no other reason. Spiritual gifts cannot be passed around from person to person or imparted from one person to another any more than the Holy Spirit can be. We cannot “will” a gift into a person simply because they want it, nor can we impart a teaching to another through the laying on of hands.

Gifts are not given as “mantles” by praying at someone’s grave site, nor is there any biblical indication that a believer has rights to or should ask for a mantle or gift of someone who has died.  Yes, Elisha received the “mantle” of Elijah but again, this is by way of the old covenant, not the new, and under what seemed to be very special circumstances.

Holy Spirit Manifestations

 1 Corinthians 12:7-11

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

The Holy Spirit does not manifest through water or electricity or grant us power to manipulate the atmosphere by the movement of our hands.  His presence does not cause a believer to fall to the ground or to become frozen as in a trance-like state or to shake, jerk, convulse, groan, moan, bend at the waist, go into a giving birth-like state, jump up and down, shout, scream or run around the room. He does not cause the believer to act like or to make sounds of an animal or snake, or to experience sensations of hot or cold or electricity.  He does not cause a feeling of drunkenness, slurred speech or other similar impairments, nor does He cause fits of uncontrolled laughter or tears.

There is nothing in the bible to substantiate these manifestations to be of the Holy Spirit, or to even be Godly.  Instead they seem to mimic death and various diseases and drunkenness and even behaviors of those who are demon possessed.

Isaiah 29:9-10

9 Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind!

They are drunk, but not with wine; they stagger but not with intoxicating drink.

10 For the Lord has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets; and He has covered your heads, namely, the seers.

 Holy Spirit Fruit

Galatians 5:22 – 23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

If Jesus came to bring us freedom, would the Holy Spirit who reveals all truth and testifies of Christ cause us to act in such oppressive and uncontrolled behavior?  These manifestations do not match ones listed in scripture, nor do they prove they are actually from the Holy Spirit as they are in violation of His fruit and the characteristics of God. Think about it!

In my research I have found these manifestations to be of Satan, the occult and different religions, specifically in Hinduism, known as Kundalini. The similarities in the Kundalini Awakening and what we have been calling manifestations of the Holy Spirit are shockingly similar. See this article http://endtimesdeception.com/?p=509  I know it sounds crazy but these are crazy deceitful times we are in.

I still believe we can feel the power and presence of God in some situations. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned, not physically.  We are assured of our faith because the Word of God is true, not because our flesh is.  Much, if not all, of this manifested behavior is not truly biblical, cannot be found in scripture, or proven to be characteristic of God, so whose manifestations are these?  And if such manifestations come upon a believer, how did it happen?

1 Timothy 5:22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure.

Ephesians 5:6-7

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore, do not be partakers with them.

When we allow a person to lay hands on us, and come into agreement with that person, or when there is a “blanket” impartation happening in the room, again that we agree with, if we continue to be subject to false teaching and doctrine we allow that person to impart their demons.  Some time later we can begin to experience false signs and wonders, false prophecy, false tongues, gifting, etc., and the demonic manifestations.  They take up a presence in the spirit because we have agreed to it. This is why there is a mixture of spirits or spiritual manifestations and gifts, etc. Where in the word does it say that the Holy Spirit is tangible?

Like I did, the next time you feel yourself manifest, you may want to question who or what has touched you.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4

3 But I fear, lest somehow as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted – you may well put up with it!

Please become familiar with the truth behind the Toronto Blessing, which took place in 1994.  This is when and where much of the demonic was released upon the charismatic church and is taught and encouraged to this day.  Many of the leaders, teachers and prophets involved are the ones teaching false doctrine and prophecy today. (Other places with similar experiences were Brownsville and Dudley (UK) revivals.) Not only is this an accepted practice, but those who manifest are considered more spiritual or gifted than the ones who do not. This is a lie!

There is much to this deception and it is far reaching. Some believe this event was only a taste of what is to come; the great falling away.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.

3Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.  This speaks of the anti-christ who is to come.

Matthew 24:15 “Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads let him understand)…

Consider this is an unholy person occupying a place reserved for God here on earth.  How closely related is this to a person who has been overtaken by another spirit in the place that should have been reserved and kept only for the presence of the Holy Spirit.  This person is given to fleshy manifestations and doctrines of demons who believe his experiences are from God!

Many of us have been taught that a Christian cannot be deceived. What foolishness!  The New Testament is full of scriptures that warn of deceitful teachings, teachers and false prophets and of those bringing another gospel or another Jesus!  We are also told to expose them for what they are!
